But did you know He had the power <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p His<br />

ordeal <strong>and</strong> overcome His <strong>to</strong>rmen<strong>to</strong>rs at any point?<br />

When the troops came <strong>to</strong> arrest Him, they said, “We<br />

seek Jesus of Nazareth.” The Bible tells us He<br />

stepped forward <strong>and</strong> spoke the awesome name of<br />

God that was revealed <strong>to</strong> Moses—I AM (Ex. 3:14)—<br />

<strong>and</strong> the soldiers drew back <strong>and</strong> fell <strong>to</strong> the ground<br />

(John 18:5–6). That’s power. But He chose <strong>to</strong> lay<br />

down His <strong>life</strong> <strong>and</strong> endure all the pain—for <strong>your</strong><br />

healing <strong>and</strong> my healing. That’s love!<br />

Our Savior didn’t want you <strong>to</strong> be saved from just<br />

<strong>your</strong> sins. If that was all He wanted <strong>to</strong> accomplish,<br />

the shedding of His perfect, a<strong>to</strong>ning blood alone<br />

would have been enough. In the Old Testament,<br />

when the children of Israel brought their sacrificial<br />

animals <strong>to</strong> the priests as a<strong>to</strong>nement for their sins, the<br />

animals never suffered. They were killed humanely<br />

using a method known <strong>to</strong>day as shechita <strong>to</strong> ensure<br />

they died swiftly <strong>and</strong> painlessly. 7<br />

But our Lord Jesus didn’t die a quick, painless<br />

d<strong>eat</strong>h. He suffered like no other, going through hour<br />

after hour of unimaginable <strong>to</strong>rture before He finally<br />

died. Look at this scripture:<br />

[Christ] Himself bore our sins in His own<br />

body on the tree, that we, having died <strong>to</strong> sins,
