PARTAKE OF THE TREE OF LIFE<br />

Luke 24:30 records that “He <strong>to</strong>ok bread, blessed <strong>and</strong><br />

broke it, <strong>and</strong> gave it <strong>to</strong> them.”<br />

Doesn’t this remind you of another time when<br />

Jesus <strong>to</strong>ok bread, blessed <strong>and</strong> broke it, <strong>and</strong> gave it <strong>to</strong><br />

the disciples, saying, “Take, <strong>eat</strong>; this is My body”<br />

(Matt. 26:26; Mark 14:22)?<br />

The resurrected Christ had the holy Communion<br />

with the two disciples! What an honor the Lord Jesus<br />

has put on the breaking of bread, on this wonderful<br />

sacrament He has given <strong>to</strong> the church.<br />

Pas<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>and</strong> leaders, I believe the Lord was<br />

showing us what must happen in our churches every<br />

Sunday. First, He showed us how we must teach<br />

from “all the Scriptures,” including Moses <strong>and</strong> all<br />

the Prophets, the things concerning Himself (Luke<br />

24:27). I believe the two disciples’ eyes were<br />

restrained from recognizing Him physically (Luke<br />

24:16), because <strong>to</strong> the Lord it was more important<br />

for them <strong>to</strong> see Him in the Scriptures than <strong>to</strong> see<br />

Him in person.<br />

Second, the Lord put the holy Communion on a<br />

divine pedestal <strong>and</strong> made it central. This is why in<br />

my church, we receive the Communion every single<br />

week. That’s what the early church did as well. The
