Dès 1986, l’Union Internationale de lutte Contre la Tuberculose et <strong>les</strong> Maladies<br />
Respiratoires (UICTMR) démontrait que l’application correcte de la<br />
chimiothérapie courte, assorti d’un système d’<strong>en</strong>registrem<strong>en</strong>t précis du diagnostic,<br />
et du dev<strong>en</strong>ir des malades traités, permettait d’obt<strong>en</strong>ir un taux de guérison de 80 à<br />
85% dans le cadre de programme nationaux.<br />
C’est <strong>pour</strong>quoi la stratégie recommandée actuellem<strong>en</strong>t par l’OMS et l’UICTMR<br />
est l’application de programmes nationaux modernes, fondés sur la détection<br />
prioritaire des cas contagieux et leur guérison par une chimiothérapie standardisée<br />
de courte durée, l’administration des médicam<strong>en</strong>ts étant directem<strong>en</strong>t observée, au<br />
moins durant la phase initiale du traitem<strong>en</strong>t.<br />
