related fields. The inclusion of high-level offices
devoted to human rights, development and international
sports matters both heightened the profile
of the project and provided key modes of engaging
high-level players on these matters. The interdisciplinary
nature of the project was indeed among its
main strengths. This was evident in matters such
as designing proposed indicators for use by megaevents
organisers, where human rights concerns
were enriched by perspectives derived from urban
planning, development and beyond.
The primary mode for the involvement of these
persons in the day-to-day workings of the project
was via an advisory panel, consulted on key strategic
matters arising under the project, as well as on
the design and implementation of research models
deployed during the work. The advisory panel
met in person on several occasions, but general
consultation by e-mail was the norm. In addition,
a number of expert consultants were engaged to
carry out legal research, undertake first hand field
research, prepare memoranda on various aspects
of policy and law arising under the project, and
to carry out matters such as editing, proofreading
and publication design. At implementation level,
the project experienced several mutations, with
persons originally involved in the project moving
on to other work, and new persons becoming involved
mid-way through the process.
