The Intellectual Property (IP) Hub provides common legal and marketing services to the R&D Platform (research
institutions that agree to common policies and the sharing of common services). The IP Hub helps reduce costs by
using economies of scale, thereby supporting and strengthening research in developing countries.
the CEMAC region, it will be necessary to consider
how to apply the model on a national level, in each of
the six CEMAC countries. National IP Hubs, similar
to the one in Colombia, would be more accessible to
research institutions than regional ones.
The Brazilian government, with WIPO support, has
convened an international conference on research networks
and IP, which will take place in October 2008.
Models of research networks and infrastructures that
support IP management will be discussed. Our division
will participate in this conference and present
the model developed in the framework of the GIANsupported
project. Our project has created a model and
tools that we believe can and should be replicated on
a wide-scale in developing countries. That is the next
challenge, and I’m quite confident that there is sufficient
political will to meet it.
