promising directions in archaeological conserv<strong>at</strong>ion to be<br />
pursued in <strong>the</strong> Vesuvian region <strong>and</strong> indeed elsewhere. The<br />
present <strong>Summary</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> papers given <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> “open list” <strong>of</strong><br />
conclusions <strong>and</strong> recommend<strong>at</strong>ions, or ideas <strong>and</strong> principles,<br />
developed during <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Symposium provides an<br />
opportunity to fur<strong>the</strong>r define best conserv<strong>at</strong>ion practices,<br />
both current <strong>and</strong> future.<br />
In closing, I would like to thank Pr<strong>of</strong>. Pietro Giovanni Guzzo<br />
<strong>and</strong> his <strong>of</strong>fice th<strong>at</strong> has served as such a generous <strong>and</strong> kind<br />
partner to WMF over <strong>the</strong> past several years, <strong>and</strong> whose wise<br />
