L’entroterra dai molti tesori
Treasures of the Apennine lands
Seven Itineraries from Little Harbors to Mountain Towns
The following pages hold some interesting
itineraries to explore which start out from
the little harbors of Liguria. In the east of
Liguria, the area of Luni has Ligurian necropolises
and Roman ruins: from Pignone to Ameglia,
castles, towers, and noblemen’s palaces dot the
green hills. Behind Chiavari lies the D’Aveto
Valley with its lakes, mountains, and Alpine
meadows. To the west the Nervia Valley route
takes the visitor past the stone bridge – painted
by Monet – of medieval Dolceacqua, to Bajardo,
with its wonderful view of the Maritime Alps. On
the Hill of Castellaro are modern sculpture
totems carved of the Stone of Finale, by Rainer
Kriester, and the masks in Ubaga, at the top of
the Arroscia Valley, testify to the culture of the
ancient Ligurians. Going up from Pieve di Teco to
Mendatica, will make you pleasantly dizzy. And a
fun excursion in Genoa traces its ancient
aqueduct back into the hills. Cuisine is always a
pleasant surprise in Liguria, from east to west.
