I totem di Kriester
Kriester’s Totems
Dietro Albenga, sulla collina di Castellaro, l’artista tedesco ha lasciato le sue imponenti sculture modellate sulla pietra di Finale
Behind Albenga, on the hill of Castellaro, the German artist has carved his imposing sculptures out of the stone of Finale
La collina di Castellaro, dove sono
collocate le sculture
monumentali dell’artista tedesco
Rainer Kriester, assume il ruolo del
miraggio in particolare verso sera
allorché, raggiunto questo
privilegiato punto di osservazione,
si ha l’opportunità, attraverso le
monolitiche strutture dal sapore
arcaico, di traguardare il mare
laggiù, verso Albenga.
Questo è un luogo magico in cui
Kriester ha riversato il suo estro
fuori di ogni moda e di ogni tempo,
scavando e incidendo
quotidianamente e con pazienza la
pietra di Finale (che andava quindi
levigata, blandita, accarezzata) per
ricavarne imponenti teste
totemiche, essenziali, ovvero per
estrarre dalla materia mute
interrogazioni, intime preghiere di
speranza. O, se si preferisce
(pensando al ritmico, lontano
eppure intimamente percepibile
respiro del mare), per inviare nella
On the hill of Castellaro the many
monumental sculptures done by
German artist, Rainer Kriester,
appear almost as a mirage especially
at dusk. He who reaches this
privileged observation point, if he has
the opportunity, can sight, through
the monolithic structures with their
taste of the archaic, the sea, far away,
over there, near Albenga.
This is the place of magic, in which
Kriester poured out his fancy, away
from any fashion and any time,
digging and engraving daily with
patience the stone of the
mountainside, the Stone of Finale
(which must therefore be polished,
and softened, and caressed) to
bring out imposing totem-like
heads, in their essence, or in other
words to extract from this mute
material interrogations, intimate
prayers of hope. Or, if you prefer
(thinking of the rhythmical, though
far off, yet intimately perceptible
breathing of the sea), to send into
liquidità dell’infinito accorati
messaggi in bottiglia.
Perciò in un simile spazio ideale di
sacrificio e di lirica ostentazione si
percepisce, con un brivido di
inadeguatezza, il profumo
dell’assoluto. Alcune di queste
opere ogni tanto lasciano la sede in
cui sono state create per condurre il
loro messaggio in giro per il mondo.
Ma infine tornano perché non
recepiscono altra logica
collocazione. Qualcuna invece ha
determinato stabilmente particolari
luoghi con la sua emblematica
imponenza. Un po’di Finale, un
po’di Albenga accompagna dunque
le sue statuarie presenze alimentate
anche dalla voce insistita e sibilante
della tramontana quando insidia gli
ulivi e i pinastri.
Anche così, attraverso l’emblematica
presenza degli oracoli di Kriester, la
Liguria si propone culturalmente al
mondo.
the infinite liquidity heartfelt
messages in the bottle. This is why a
similar space is ideal for sacrifice
and for lyrical ostentation which is
perceived, with a shiver of
inadequacy, as the perfume of the
absolute. Some of these works
every once in a while leave the seat
in which they were created to take
their message away across the
world. But in the end they return,
because they cannot perceive any
other logical placement. Some
however have determined stability
in the particular places of their
emblematic grandeur. A bit of
Finale, a bit of Albenga then,
accompanies their statues’
presences, fed also by the insistent
and whistling voice of the northern
wind as it heckles the olive trees
and the pines.
Just so, even through the
emblematic presence of the oracles
of Kriester, Liguria proposes itself
culturally to the world.
