Rev. Paulius Rabikauskas SJ (1920-1998) - Church historian, connoisseur of diplomacy and palaeography. Vice-rector of Gregoriana, long time dean of the faculty of Church history, editor of Archivum Historiae Pontificiae. Among his most important works are Diplomatica pontificia (6th ed., 1998) and acclaimed edition of sources of Lithuanian history Relationes status dioecesium in Magno Ducatu Lituaniae I—II (1971-1978). Present book contains Vilnius Jesuit university (est. 1579) history studies: analysis of the establishment documents, progress of Science and development of lecturing, problems of foundation of the faculties of law and medicine. The lists of rectors are updated; questions of university properties are discussed. Some of the studies are dedicated to the XVII c. Jesuits related to the University - Lithuanian spiritual writer K. Sirvydas, to one of the most popular neo-latin poets M. C. Sarbievius, to the alumni of the University and the missionary in China A. Rudamina. Activities of Jesuit colleges in Kaunas and Pašiaušė are discussed separately, binding them into locai history context. These studies of Paulius Rabikauskas are grounded by researches in rich archive material, particularly ARSI and Vatican Secret archives. They are distinctive for their erudition, perfect knowledge of universal Church history and precise interpretation of facts.

lenkiškai kalbančių kunigų, nors dar buvo neišėjęs reikiamų studijų,

1570 m. gruodžio 24 d. Pultuske gavo kunigo šventimus. Į Vilnių atvyko

1571 m. rudenį klausyti filosofijos ir sakyti lenkiškų pamokslų.

1573 m. sausio mėn. persikėlė į Poznanę, kur daugiausia dirbo ir mirė

1614 m. kovo 25 d. 35

Kasparas K a 1 i s k i (Caliski), klierikas, lenkas, gimęs apie 1548 m.,

įstojo į jėzuitus Prahoje 1567 m. kovo 23 d. Į Vilnių atvyko iš Braunsbergo

1571 m. vasarą ir perėmė iš Haslerio sintaksės klasę; be to, jam

buvo pavesta žemesniųjų klasių mokiniams šventadieniais lenkiškai

aiškinti evangeliją. 36

Stanislovas M i e 1 e c k i (Meletius), klierikas, lenkas, kilęs iš garsios

Mieleckių giminės, gimęs apie 1551 m., į jėzuitus įstojo Vienoje 1567 m.

rugsėjo mėn. 25 d. Į Vilnių atvyko 1571 m. vasarą iš Pultusko ir perėmė

iš Swabe gramatikos klasę. Dėl tų pačių metų gale siautusio maro

mirė 1572 m. vasario 7 d. 37

Jodokas B o c h n e r (Bohen, Bochen, Bochnerus), klierikas, vokietis

nuo Koblenzo, gimęs apie 1544 m., į jėzuitus įstojo Kölne 1564 m.

birželio 1 d. Netrukus buvo pasiųstas į Braunsberge steigiamą kolegiją.

Iš ten per Pultuską 1571 m. vasarą atvyko į Vilnių studijuoti filosofijos.

Ją bebaigdamas 1574 m. birželio 1 d. gavo Vilniuje kun. šventimus

ir palydėjo Varševickį, tuo metu pirmą kartą vykstantį į Švediją (birželio

6 d., Švč. Trejybės šventėje, t. Bochner atšventė savo primicijas, o

rytojaus dieną jau išvažiavo iš Vilniaus). 38

Merkelis Ditius (Didus, Dictius), klierikas, lenkas, gimęs apie

1551 m., įstojo į jėzuitus Vienoje 1568 m. birželio 1 d. { Vilnių atvyko
