Rev. Paulius Rabikauskas SJ (1920-1998) - Church historian, connoisseur of diplomacy and palaeography. Vice-rector of Gregoriana, long time dean of the faculty of Church history, editor of Archivum Historiae Pontificiae. Among his most important works are Diplomatica pontificia (6th ed., 1998) and acclaimed edition of sources of Lithuanian history Relationes status dioecesium in Magno Ducatu Lituaniae I—II (1971-1978). Present book contains Vilnius Jesuit university (est. 1579) history studies: analysis of the establishment documents, progress of Science and development of lecturing, problems of foundation of the faculties of law and medicine. The lists of rectors are updated; questions of university properties are discussed. Some of the studies are dedicated to the XVII c. Jesuits related to the University - Lithuanian spiritual writer K. Sirvydas, to one of the most popular neo-latin poets M. C. Sarbievius, to the alumni of the University and the missionary in China A. Rudamina. Activities of Jesuit colleges in Kaunas and Pašiaušė are discussed separately, binding them into locai history context. These studies of Paulius Rabikauskas are grounded by researches in rich archive material, particularly ARSI and Vatican Secret archives. They are distinctive for their erudition, perfect knowledge of universal Church history and precise interpretation of facts.

6. Klier. Mikalojus Grebeniauskas (Grebienievius, Grzebieniew-

ski), lietuvis iš Brastos srities, gimęs apie 1552 m. Lankė mokyklą savo

tėviškėje, po to studijavo Krokuvoje, „bet menki iš to vaisiai". 85 Kai

į Vilnių atvyko jėzuitai, ir jis panoro prie jų prisidėti. Prieš įstodamas į

Draugiją, Vilniaus kolegijai padovanojo miesto aikštėje stovintį namą.

86 Buvo priimtas Braunsberge 1572 m. kovo 29 d. Po filosofijos ir

teologijos studijų dirbo įvairiose vietose; 1585-1590 m. buvo Vilniaus

kolegijos nuosavybių ekonomu. Mirė Pultuske 1597 m. kovo 1 d. 87

7. Klier. Jeronimas Kiniškis (Kiniszkis, Kiniskis, Kiniszko, Keniskis,

Kieniszkis, Kynisko, Kiniszkowicz), lietuvis, gimęs apie 1553 m.

Vilniuje pirklio šeimoje. 1565-1568 metais mokėsi Braunsbergo kolegijoje.

Grįžęs į Vilnių, bandė pats prekiauti, paskui dirbo pas notarą.

1572 m. rugsėjo 14 d. Braunsberge įstojo į Draugiją. 1573 m. rudenį

atvyko į Pultuską studijuoti humanitarinių dalykų. Vėliau Vilniuje studijavo

filosofiją ir teologiją. Ir paskiau įvairiais atvejais randame jį

Vilniuje: 1601-1605 buvo viceprovincijolo Lietuvai Pauliaus Bokšos

padėjėju; 1612-1619 m. gyveno Vilniaus profesų namuose (prie Šv.

Kazimiero bažnyčios). Kai 1609 m. Oršoje buvo įsteigti jėzuitų misijos

namai, t. Kiniškis tapo pirmuoju jų viršininku; 1619-1622 m. jis

taip pat Oršoje, dabar jau kolegijos rektorius; ten pat pasiliko iki mirties

1629 m. birželio 13 d. 88

8. Br. Kasparas Vercibis (Viercibies, Wiercibies), lietuvis, vilnietis,

gimęs apie 1544 m. Priimtas į Draugiją Vilniuje 1572 m. spalio

10 d. Sekančiais metais buvo Vilniaus kolegijoje kailiadirbiu, siuvėjo

padėjėju, durininku. Vėliau užtinkamas Nesvyžiaus kolegijoje, kur mirė

apie 1607 metus. 89
