Rev. Paulius Rabikauskas SJ (1920-1998) - Church historian, connoisseur of diplomacy and palaeography. Vice-rector of Gregoriana, long time dean of the faculty of Church history, editor of Archivum Historiae Pontificiae. Among his most important works are Diplomatica pontificia (6th ed., 1998) and acclaimed edition of sources of Lithuanian history Relationes status dioecesium in Magno Ducatu Lituaniae I—II (1971-1978). Present book contains Vilnius Jesuit university (est. 1579) history studies: analysis of the establishment documents, progress of Science and development of lecturing, problems of foundation of the faculties of law and medicine. The lists of rectors are updated; questions of university properties are discussed. Some of the studies are dedicated to the XVII c. Jesuits related to the University - Lithuanian spiritual writer K. Sirvydas, to one of the most popular neo-latin poets M. C. Sarbievius, to the alumni of the University and the missionary in China A. Rudamina. Activities of Jesuit colleges in Kaunas and Pašiaušė are discussed separately, binding them into locai history context. These studies of Paulius Rabikauskas are grounded by researches in rich archive material, particularly ARSI and Vatican Secret archives. They are distinctive for their erudition, perfect knowledge of universal Church history and precise interpretation of facts.

1677 Užgavėnėse Kražiuose vaidinta drama Leontius orei victima ir

Devintinėse lenkiškas dialogas Chleb zwycięski w Gedeonie; abiejų

autorius - Gabrielius Šimkevičius. Kiek vėliau (data nežinoma) Kražiuose

buvo rodoma tragedija Belisarius, kurią retorikos mokytojas

D. Mikulskis perdirbo iš garsios vokiečių jėzuito J. Maseno tragedijos

Mauritius. XVIII a. Vilniuje statytų scenos veikalų autoriais yra buvę:

1709 - V. Daukša, 1714 ir 1719 - Juozas Rudamina, 1715 - B. Gizbertas,

1724 - D. Kasakauskas, 1724 - J. Špungianskis, 1750 - R. Hempelis,

1761 - M. Chaneckis, 1771 - K. Benislavskis. Kauno kolegijoje

1734 buvo statoma lenkų k. tragedija apie Izaoką, kuriai tekstą parašė

T. Woronowicz. Žymiausias iš Vilniaus akad. išėjęs ir ilgai Varšuvoje

dirbęs dramaturgas buvo Pranciškus Bohomolec. Vilniuje jis studijavo

retoriką, ten pat dėstė infimos ir gramatikos klasėse. Po 4 m. teol.

studijų Romoje jis 1750 grįžo vėl į Vilnių dėstyti retorikos, bet jau

1752 perkeltas į Varšuvą, ten pasiliko iki mirties. Labai galimas dalykas,

kad vieną kitą teatro dalyką bus sukūręs Vilniuje; tačiau intensyvią

teatrinę veiklą išvystė Varšuvoje, kurdamas pirma klasikinės formos

tragedijas, o nuo 1755 - lenkiškas komedijas. Ordiną panaikinus,

jis dirbo Varšuvos valstybiniame teatre.

AUTORIŲ PARUOŠIMAS

Kaip kituose kraštuose, taip ir Lenkijoje bei Lietuvoje buvo speciali

jėzuitų mokytojų seminarija (Seminarium nostrorum humanistarum et

rhetorum, Academia litterarum humaniorum), kurioje busimieji kolegijų

mokytojai vienerius ar dvejus metus gilino humanistines studijas.

Ji įsteigta 1571 Pultuske; pirmuoju jos prof. buvo Albertas Tobolskis

(Theobolscius). Šiam po pusės metų sunegalavus ir vėliau persikėlus į

Vilnių, seminarijos prof. iki 1574 buvo Benediktas Herbest, po jo Justas

Rab, o po šio Martynas Lascius. 1578 rudenį mokytojų seminarija

perkelta į Jaroslavą, kur buvęs sveikesnis klimatas. Jaroslave kurį laiką

seminarijoje dirbo ir vilnietis Kasparas Savickis. Augant kolegijų ir
