Rev. Paulius Rabikauskas SJ (1920-1998) - Church historian, connoisseur of diplomacy and palaeography. Vice-rector of Gregoriana, long time dean of the faculty of Church history, editor of Archivum Historiae Pontificiae. Among his most important works are Diplomatica pontificia (6th ed., 1998) and acclaimed edition of sources of Lithuanian history Relationes status dioecesium in Magno Ducatu Lituaniae I—II (1971-1978). Present book contains Vilnius Jesuit university (est. 1579) history studies: analysis of the establishment documents, progress of Science and development of lecturing, problems of foundation of the faculties of law and medicine. The lists of rectors are updated; questions of university properties are discussed. Some of the studies are dedicated to the XVII c. Jesuits related to the University - Lithuanian spiritual writer K. Sirvydas, to one of the most popular neo-latin poets M. C. Sarbievius, to the alumni of the University and the missionary in China A. Rudamina. Activities of Jesuit colleges in Kaunas and Pašiaušė are discussed separately, binding them into locai history context. These studies of Paulius Rabikauskas are grounded by researches in rich archive material, particularly ARSI and Vatican Secret archives. They are distinctive for their erudition, perfect knowledge of universal Church history and precise interpretation of facts.

Vilniaus rektoratu, tai yra kai vienerius metus buvo sykiu rektorius ir

viceprovincijolas, balandžio mėnesį suėjo jau 5 metai“. 204 Taigi nuo

1602 metų balandžio mėn. jis jau nebebuvo Akademijos rektorius.

c. Rektoriaus veikla. - Neturime tikslių žinių, kodėl P. Bokša pačiame

akademinių metų viduryje buvo perkeltas iš Braunsbergo į Vilnių.

Galimas dalykas, kad iškilo kokių nors sunkumų su Lietuvos diduomene.

Iki tol buvęs rektorius L. Krakeris, kilęs iš Poznanės, negalėjo būti

laikomas Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštijos vietiniu asmeniu, kai tuo

tarpu P. Bokša, paeinąs iš Gedimino dinastijos kunigaikščių Olelkaičių

valdomo Slucko ir, be to, mokąs lietuvių kalbą, 205 geriau tiko užimti

aukščiausios Lietuvoje mokslo įstaigos vadovo vietą. Galėjo paveikti

ir lietuvių jėzuitų prieš lenkus skundai, kurių tame laikotarpyje būdavo

nemaža.

MEDŽIAGA SENOJO VILNIAUS UNIVERSITETO ISTORIJAI, V

Akademijos studentų skaičius buvo maždaug toks pats kaip ir visą

tą dešimtmetį: 1600 metais aiškiai sakoma „siekia 800“. 206

1600 metų Litterae annuae taip pat pažymi, kad Vilniaus mieste, be

eretikų ir stačiatikių, gyvena apie 40 000 katalikų. Didžiausią jų dalį

tenka aptarnauti jėzuitams. 207 Tais metais buvo užbaigta statyti prieglauda-ligoninė,

kurioje buvo išlaikoma 100 neturtingų žmonių. 208 Akademijoje

gyveną ir dirbą jėzuitai didžiųjų švenčių ir atostogų metu išvykdavo

į kaimus mokyti žmones tikėjimo tiesų. 1600 metais buvo net

47 tokios išvykos, iš kurių 10 tęsėsi po vieną ar net du mėnesius laiko.
