in chapter 9 – mainly in relation to the civilian population, the media and sanitary personnel.
Briefly the reasoning behind this legal obligation as well as the main content of
the obligation is given in an introduction to the chapter. Having in mind the fact that
the armed forces is a main actor in armed conflicts, dissemination activities targeted
at the armed forces are emphasized.
Importantly the international Red Cross movement is described in chapter ten, the
final chapter. Mainly, it focuses on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
including the history of ICRC, ICRC’s mandate and status as a neutral, independent
and impartial organisation as stipulated in the Geneva Conventions and last but not
least ICRC activities in relation to people affected by armed conflicts e.g. detention
visits. The other main body of the international Red Cross movement, the federation,
is naturally also mentioned in chapter 10 along with a short general description of
the national Red Cross societies’ activities and the legal status of national societies. A
thorough description is given of the tasks of the Danish Red Cross society as well as
an outline of the history of the Danish Red Cross society dating from its governmental
recognition in 1876.
