1 Research Area “Digital Media Archive”
GAMA
The GAMA consortium (Gateway to Archives of Media Art), comprising 19 European part-
ners, has been developing a unique online platform for media art since 2007. The two-
year project is funded by the EU-program eContentplus. It is GAMA’s objective to make
existing European media-art archives accessible to researchers, artists, cultural institu-
tions and the broad public in a cross-network, multi-lingual and user-oriented manner.
Digital works of art are to be systematically registered. HfG is responsible for developing
the interfaces between the different archives connected to GAMA. The various digital artifacts
are stored within a meta-archive system and transformed into a common format.
All existing data-base content is thus made accessible to the end users. To enable this, a
system platform will be set up – based on the results of its predecessor project, OASIS –
with Internet streaming for interlinking intelligent, distributive computer databases. The
launch of the portal www.gama-gateway.eu was celebrated at the renowned Ars Electronica
Festival in Linz at the beginning of September.

Artemak
The Artemak project contains interviews with artists with a background in conservation.
For Artemak, HfG has developed a special domain-specific language (arteEASY) that allows
the digitial realization of the interviews. A specifically developed translator transforms
the input of arteEASY-DSL into an XML-format for further processing, from which
the corresponding target formats (Wiki/HTML or Latex/PDF) are generated. In addition,
the Wiki syntax was extended through selective references for the keyword system. The
aim is to make the platform accessible online by the end of 2009.
