On <strong>the</strong>' morn<strong>in</strong>g <strong>of</strong> October 8, 1829, <strong>the</strong> Kocket was<br />

aga<strong>in</strong> upon <strong>the</strong> road for <strong>the</strong> contest. <strong>The</strong> fire-box was<br />

filled with coke, <strong>the</strong> fire lighted, and <strong>the</strong> steam raised<br />

imtil it lifted <strong>the</strong> safety-valve loaded to <strong>the</strong> pressure <strong>of</strong><br />

fifty pounds to <strong>the</strong> square <strong>in</strong>ch. <strong>The</strong>se preparations<br />

occupied fifty-seven m<strong>in</strong>utes. <strong>The</strong> eng<strong>in</strong>e be<strong>in</strong>g start-<br />

ed on its journey, dragged after it thirteen tons' weight<br />
