<strong>The</strong> water output of River <strong>Tisa</strong> is higher, 224 m 3 /sec, that the average 126<br />

m 3 /sec of River Szamos. It is due to River <strong>Tisa</strong>'s tributaries of great water discharge.<br />

River Szamos comes from the rather dry region of North Transylvania. Well beyond<br />

its confluence with River <strong>Tisa</strong>, River Szamos loses its dip and begins its large-scale<br />

deposition of gravel up near Szatmárnémedi. <strong>The</strong> vast gravel field of the Szatmári<br />

Plain has been built by the three major rivers, (Szamos, Kraszna and Túr) together<br />

with their affluents. This catchment area (<strong>Tisa</strong>-Szamos region) is a plain area indeed,<br />

where the great bend of Vásárosnamény came into existence in the last third of the<br />
