A solution would be if we only reflected the changes of the 20th century, if we had<br />

any data at all. It is known that we do not possess official figures about the widespread<br />

de<strong>for</strong>estation along River <strong>Tisa</strong> or the main changes in the branches of cultivation. <strong>The</strong><br />

<strong>for</strong>ests of the Carpathian Basin and the surrounding mountainous areas are planted<br />

<strong>for</strong>ests, the trees of which should be exploited and the area re<strong>for</strong>ested in a planned<br />

way, thus their natural decay cannot be permitted. Forest soil stores water, while field<br />

soil wastes water. A <strong>for</strong>est decreases water output of precipitation until the <strong>for</strong>est floor<br />

and the soil is soaked with water. After that it cannot act as a water retainer.<br />

Be<strong>for</strong>e human interference, de<strong>for</strong>estation and swamp draining activities, the<br />

wooded-steppe areas of the interior of the basin system were surrounded by <strong>for</strong>ests of<br />
