Steps to developing a policy 1. Start with a knowledge, attitude and behaviour (KAB) survey to assess staff’s awareness of HIV. 2. Discussions begin with need for a workplace policy using results from KAB survey. 3. Develop draft policy. Focal person or people may lead on drafting policy but this should then be shared with all members of the organisation and discussed and reviewed. 4. Policy implementation. Supported with prevention work. 5. Policy monitored and reviewed through surveys and feedback from staff. 6. Amend and update all staff on new policy.
