2002 - mainstreaming HIV became an organisational priority;
began developing policy.
Set up a HIV unit to co-ordinate activities across the
organisation.
Developed a HIV awareness booklet for all staff.
Consultation with all staff about the development of a policy.
Field offices gathered data about the HIV context in their area,
issues HIV positive staff were facing, how could the
organisation better support them.
Data presented to the Directorate who realized the need for a
workplace policy. Having their buy-in helped to move things
along much quicker.
A key element of the policy was providing education and
training to all staff to prevent the spread of HIV. Local offices
are responsible for developing their own education programme
relevant to the local context.
