Solutions To Drive Problems
TROUBLESHOOTING
After you display the fault messages, you are ready to try to remedy
the problems.
An easy-to-use chart will help you quickly locate the possible causes
to the problem. It also lists remedies you should try before you call for
service.
¥ The column labeled ÒMessageÓ lists all of the fault messages that
can be displayed on the keypad.
¥ The column labeled ÒPossible CausesÓ lists all of the things that
might cause the message to appear. You will note that some of
the possible causes are listed for more than one message. This
can occur when a situation, such as a conveyor jamming, causes
several situations, such as motor overload and inverter overload,
to occur simultaneously.
¥ The column labeled ÒSuggested RemediesÓ lists the things you
can try before you call for service. Note that you cannot correct
some of the situations yourself. In these cases, Òcall for serviceÓ is
the only option listed.
¥ If you exhaust all of the solutions and still get fault messages, call
Cutler-Hammer for service.
Refer to the Toll Free number on the back cover of this manual to
speak to a Cutler-Hammer service representative.
Running In Open Loop Test Mode
You might want to run your drive without a motor connected during
troubleshooting (this is called the OPEN LOOP TEST Mode):
1. Apply power to the drive.
2. Press the Operate button, (the Operate LCD is lights).
3. Jumper terminal 7 to 8 and terminal 7 to 15.
4. Press and hold the Operate button and press the Start button.
5. Release both buttons.
In the OPEN LOOP TEST Mode the keypad LCD displays the output
voltage, speed, and frequency. Load and current values should be
zero. Note that if you try to connect a motor to a drive in the OPEN
LOOP TEST Mode, the drive will trip after 5 seconds and display
ÒMotor Fault.Ó The drive will also trip on Motor Fault if you try to run
with no motor connected in the default CLOSED LOOP Mode.
To return to the default CLOSED LOOP Mode, press the Stop button.
