global issues, and introduces the <strong>University</strong>’s Franciscan<br />

values as an interpretive framework for analysis and<br />

Prerequisites: 101, a minimum overall GPA of 3.00, and<br />

approval of the global studies program director.<br />

Global Issues Seminar 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 101 and permission of program director.<br />

Seminar includes readings, discussion, research, and writing<br />

on selected global topics and themes. <strong>Course</strong>s are designed<br />

and taught by different departments and disciplines on a<br />

rotating basis. The course may be cross-listed with sponsoring<br />

department and is open to all majors, space permitting.<br />

Enlightenment to the Present 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 102. This course explores the historical changes<br />

that have forged the “modern” Western world. It deals with<br />

major cultural, social, economic, and political trends in<br />

European history from the Enlightenment to the present.<br />

Some of the main questions examined include how<br />

“modernity” developed in the West, the impact of the West’s<br />

encounter with other peoples and cultures, and the<br />

United States History for 3 credits<br />

Elementary Educators<br />

Prerequisite: 102 or permission. The course will survey United<br />

States history, from the colonial period to contemporary<br />

time, with the intention of covering content areas included<br />

on the Praxis exams. The aim of the course is to provide a<br />

foundation in chronology, history, geography, politics, and<br />
