Environmental Economics 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 200, 202, or permission. This course explores<br />

the economic issues related to environmental and natural<br />

resource concerns. Topics include market failure, particularly<br />

in the case of environmental externalities, and the<br />

implications of environmental problems from the perspective<br />

of welfare economics. Emphasis is placed on the theory and<br />

practice of benefit-cost analyses as well as the government<br />

role in economic market failures. This course also explores<br />

the microeconomics of natural resource industries including<br />

renewable and non-renewable resources. The theory and<br />

practice of environmental policy at all levels, domestic and<br />

Health Economics 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 200, 202 or permission. This course uses<br />

economic tools to understand various issues and problems<br />

pertaining to medical care and the health industry. It<br />

examines the production and demand for medical care,<br />

health care systems and institutions, the role of government<br />

in health care markets, and the behavior of specific health<br />

Prerequisites: 201 and 202, or permission. Major economic<br />

issues of the day are studied and discussed, and the<br />

economic impact of divergent solutions are analyzed. (2SE)<br />

International Trade and Development 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 201 and 202, or permission. The theory of<br />

international trade and commercial policy under changing<br />

world conditions, the theory of tariff and trade control<br />

policies, the balance of payments problem, monetary<br />

relations, and the evolution of international economic<br />

The Economics of Law 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 202 or permission. This course uses economic<br />

analysis to understand and interpret the evolution and<br />

application of legal principles. Economic concepts such as<br />

economic efficiency, opportunity costs, externalities,<br />

transaction costs, allocation of risk, and the law of demand<br />

are used in the application and effects of the law. The course<br />

applies economic principles to five main areas of law:<br />

property, contracts, torts, criminal law, and legal procedure.<br />

Court cases are used to facilitate the learning of economics<br />

This course is designed as an introduction to the use of<br />

computers and related media for education majors. Lab<br />

activities include computer system operation, software<br />

evaluation, use of teacher utilities such as word processing,<br />

database and spreadsheets, graphics programs, authoring,<br />

webquests, and multimedia. The student learns how various<br />
