Guided readings and research in nursing as approved by<br />

NUB 210<br />

Fundamentals of Nursing 4 credits<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to the BSN program and ENG 101.<br />

Corequisites: NUR 104, 231, and NUB 255. This course<br />

focuses on the fundamental concepts of nursing as related to<br />

the adult with emphasis on the aging adult population. The<br />

nursing process is utilized for health promotion and risk<br />

reduction with an emphasis on the assessment phase. Clients’<br />

responses to stressors in the physiological, psychological,<br />

sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual dimensions are<br />

utilized as the basis for nursing care. Role socialization is<br />

embraced with concepts such as the Franciscan values,<br />

responsibility, accountability, team concepts, and the<br />

evolving role of provider of care, manager of care, and a<br />

member of the healthcare profession. Two lecture hours per<br />

week and 90 clinical hours per semester. (SEM)<br />

NUB 220<br />

Nursing Care of the Adult Client I 4 credits<br />

Prerequisite: NUB 210. Corequisites: NUB 255, NUR 104, 200,<br />

231, 238. This course focuses on concepts of care basic to the<br />

adult with emphasis on the surgical experience. The nursing<br />

process is utilized to identify and respond to client stressors<br />

and in prioritization and delivery of care. Adults are assisted<br />

in promoting healthy behaviors through health promotion,<br />

risk reduction, and disease prevention. Legal and ethical<br />

concepts along with the roles of provider of care, manager of<br />

care, and member of a healthcare profession are explored as<br />

they relate to the assumption of the role of the professional<br />

nurse. Two lecture hours per week and 90 clinical hours per<br />

NUB 255<br />

Professional Role Socialization II 1 credit<br />

Prerequisite: NUR 125. The focus of this course is socialization<br />

of the student to the profession of nursing. The student<br />

explores the core competencies of critical thinking and<br />

communication. The professional nurse’s role is examined in<br />

relation to legal and ethical issues, and accountability and<br />

responsibility of professional nursing practice. The student is<br />

encouraged to adopt life-long learning, exhibit<br />

professionalism and identify with the values of the nursing<br />

NUB 328<br />

Nursing Seminar 2 credits<br />

Prerequisite: Admission to the RN-BSN program. This course<br />

focuses on the transition of the associate and diploma nurse<br />

to bachelor nursing practice. Nursing theories provide the<br />

framework for discussion of professional practice. Topics for<br />

discussion include advanced practice roles, graduate<br />

education, selected ethical/legal issues, healthcare<br />

economics, and the role of nursing in the legislative/political<br />

process. Current trends and issues in nursing are explored.<br />

NUB 330<br />

Maternity Nursing 5 credits<br />

Prerequisites: NUB 220, 255, NUR 200, 231, 238, PSY 220.<br />

Corequisite: NUB 340. This course provides the student an<br />

opportunity to apply concepts of nursing to the care of the<br />

maternity client and the childbearing family. The nursing<br />

process is utilized to evaluate the childbearing family’s<br />

response to stressors within a holistic, multi-dimensional<br />

framework including physiological, psychological,<br />

sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual. Childbearing<br />

families are assisted in promoting healthy behaviors in order<br />

to move toward optimal wellness. (SEM)<br />

NUB 335<br />

Health Assessment 2 credits<br />

RN-BSN Completion Track corequisite: NUB 328. Health<br />

Assessment provides a foundation for the practice of<br />

professional nursing. The nursing process is an integral part of<br />

the course and serves as a working guide to prepare students<br />

to collect data for a complete health assessment. Health<br />

history data is collected and a review of systems is performed<br />

to determine the health status of the client. Emphasis is<br />

placed on the assessment skills of inspection, palpation,<br />

percussion, and auscultation. Two discussion hours and two<br />

lab hours per week. <strong>Course</strong> meets for eight weeks per<br />

semester. Competency testing is available. (ADD)<br />

NUB 340<br />

Pediatric Nursing 5 credits<br />

Prerequisites: NUB 220, 255, NUR 200,231, 238, PSY 220.<br />

Corequisite: 330. This course provides the student an<br />

opportunity to incorporate concepts of nursing unique to the<br />

care of children from infancy through adolescence. The<br />

nursing process is utilized to evaluate the child and family’s<br />

response to alterations in their health care state. The needs<br />

of the child and family are analyzed in all dimensions.<br />

Dimensions include physiological, psychological,<br />

sociocultural, developmental, and spiritual aspects of nursing<br />

care. The child’s family is assisted in developing behaviors<br />

that promote, maintain and restore health. 45 lecture hours<br />

and 90 clinical hours per semester. (SEM)<br />

NUB 350<br />

Nursing Care of Adult Client II 5 credits<br />

Prerequisites: NUB 220. Corequisites: PSY 205, 230. This<br />

course provides the student with an opportunity to integrate<br />

knowledge of health promotion, risk reduction, disease<br />

prevention, and illness and disease management for selected<br />

disease processes affecting adult clients and families. The<br />

student utilizes the nursing process within a caring<br />

environment in collaboration with other healthcare<br />

professionals to implement and evaluate plans of care that<br />

prevent or reduce stressors, strengthen defense strategies,<br />
