Issues in Spiritual Direction 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 441. The fourth and final course in the Spiritual<br />

Direction Internship is designed to help prepare the<br />

participants to deal constructively with areas which are<br />

problematic for many people as they try to live committed<br />

Christian lives. During this time the small group session<br />

focuses on the practical application of this knowledge. This<br />

course is offered externally through the Benedict Inn. This<br />

course does not apply toward the general education<br />

requirement in the theological and philosophical reasoning<br />

Internship in Religious Education 2-4 credits<br />

The first two-hour segment of this course is designed to<br />

prepare the student with practical experience and training in<br />

classroom teaching at various age levels. The second twohour<br />

segment includes experience in organization and<br />

administration of religious school programs. The student is<br />

placed and supervised in one or more of the cooperating<br />

schools of the Indianapolis area. This course does not apply<br />

toward the general education requirement in the theological<br />

This course explores catechesis and religious education, the<br />

structure and implementation of catechetical programs, and<br />

the role of the catechist and others who share in the<br />

education requirement in the theological and philosophical<br />

Administration in Parish<br />

Religious Education 3 credits<br />

This course is designed to enable the parish administrator of<br />

religious education to become aware of the roles that he/she<br />

plays in the parish and the resources that are available<br />

through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the national<br />

Roman Catholic Church. The course is offered externally<br />

through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and requires<br />

acceptance into the program by the appropriate archdiocesan<br />

office. This course does not apply toward the general<br />

education requirement in the theological and philosophical<br />

Church polity, policies, procedures with special attention to<br />

Contemporary Theology 1-3 credits<br />

This seminar addresses an announced special topic which the<br />

department deems is important to the development of the<br />

advancing student of theology, is appropriate to the needs of<br />

contemporary society, and requires of itself a full semester’s<br />

work. The course is recommended for majors and non-majors<br />

(with staff approval) who have fulfilled the distribution<br />

requirement of six credits of theology. (SPR)<br />

Selected Topics in<br />

Catholic Studies 3 credits<br />

Readings, discussion, and writing on selected theological<br />

topics in Catholic studies. May be repeated for credit since<br />

subject matter varies. (ADD)<br />

Senior Seminar 3 credits<br />

A comprehensive review of theological issues open to junior<br />

or senior theology, pastoral leadership, or religious education<br />

majors with department permission. This course fulfills the<br />

requirement for comprehensive exams in theology, pastoral<br />

leadership, or religious education. Includes the common<br />

readings in the general education program for that year.<br />

Attendance at convocations required. Theology and religious<br />

education majors prepare and present a major seminar<br />

paper. In place of that paper, the student in pastoral<br />

leadership chooses a pastoral problem, issue, or area of<br />

concern; does appropriate academic and field research; and<br />

proposes a plan to address the situation/need in cooperation<br />

with sponsoring faculty member and parish representative.<br />

Independent Study 2-3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: junior or senior theology, pastoral leadership,<br />

or religious education major and permission. Guided readings<br />
