This course serves as an introduction to history of Western<br />

Europe during the periods of the Renaissance and<br />

Reformation. The course addresses the cultural, political,<br />

social and artistic movements in these periods. Themes<br />

covered include the crisis of the 14 th century, the Italian<br />

Renaissance, Northern Humanism, Reformation, Geneva and<br />

Calvin, Paris and the Bartholomew’s Massacre, popular<br />

examines the history and cultural theories of imperialism and<br />

post-colonialism. European experiences of imperialism,<br />

“dominated” peoples experiences of imperialism and postcolonial<br />

cultural theory and history are explored. The course<br />

focuses on the experiences of Europeans, Africans, and Asians<br />

in this web of interaction through the nineteenth and<br />

permission. An analysis of ideas in American history from the<br />

Puritans to the present; stress is placed on the relation<br />
