HUM 230<br />

Literature, Music, and Art<br />

in Western Tradition I 4 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ENG <strong>11</strong>5. A consideration of the particular kind<br />

of knowledge which the literature, art and music of western<br />

civilization have to offer; the search for meaning through<br />

culture. The class consists of two hours of literature and one<br />

hour each of art and music, and deals with literature and the<br />

arts from the ancient world through the Renaissance period.<br />

This course satisfies the teacher certification requirements<br />

for world literature, comparative literature, and music and art<br />

appreciation. This course partially satisfies the general<br />

education requirement in the cultural awareness category.<br />

HUM 231<br />

Literature, Music and Art<br />

in Western Tradition II 4 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ENG <strong>11</strong>5. A continuation of HUM 230, this class<br />

consists of two hours of literature and one hour each of art<br />

and music, and deals with literature and the arts from after<br />

the Renaissance period up to present time. This course<br />

satisfies the teacher certification requirements for world<br />

literature, comparative literature, and music and art<br />

appreciation. This course partially satisfies the general<br />

education requirement in the cultural awareness category.<br />

ISP 380<br />

Special Topics in International Studies 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: by permission. This three-week international<br />

studies course, conducted in the last three weeks of May,<br />

offers students from all disciplines the opportunity to study in<br />

an international setting and enhance cultural and global<br />

awareness. The setting, focus, and academic department(s)<br />

sponsoring the course change each year. Credit can be<br />

obtained through ISP 380, HON 380, or 380 of the sponsoring<br />

department(s), or through a student’s minor or major<br />

department with the approval of the departmental advisor.<br />

LAW 101<br />

Mock Trial I 2 credits<br />

Students learn the procedures and standards for the<br />

American Mock Trial Association and develop and practice<br />

presenting the mock trial case for that year. Members of<br />

<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s mock trial team are selected from the<br />

students in the course. Enhancement courses, such as LAW<br />

101, may be repeated for credit, with a maximum of 12<br />

credits earned toward a bachelor degree or six credits toward<br />

LAW 102<br />

Mock Trial II 2 credits<br />

Prerequisites: LAW 101 and/or permission of instructor. This<br />

course is for the students selected from LAW 101 to be<br />

members of <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s mock trial case for that year<br />

and participate in competition with other colleges and<br />

universities. Enhancement courses, such as LAW 102, may be<br />

repeated for credit, with a maximum of 12 credits earned<br />

toward a bachelor degree or six credits toward an associate<br />

LAW 300<br />

Legal Practice and Method 3 credits<br />

This course introduces students to the practice and method<br />

of law in the American legal system. The focus of the course is<br />

on learning the case law method through close reading and<br />

in-depth analysis of court opinions dealing with a number of<br />

different areas in the law. The forms of written and oral<br />

argumentation specific to the practice and method of<br />

American law are also covered. (2SO)<br />

LAW 360<br />

Internship in Prelaw Studies 2-6 credits<br />

Prerequisites: Permission of Director of the Center for Prelaw<br />

Studies, pursuant of prelaw concentration, 3.00 overall GPA,<br />

junior or senior standing. Director approves work load, work<br />
