International Student Advising<br />

The designated school official (DSO) is prepared to assist all<br />

international students in becoming familiar with services and<br />

programs at the university and in the community. The DSO<br />

also assists in all matters regarding passports, visas,<br />

employment issues, academics, and other concerns of the<br />

international student. The office of DSO is located in the<br />

physical education center.<br />

Internships and Career Services Office<br />

The Office of Internships and Career Services (ICS) provides<br />

services to currently enrolled students and alumni. The office<br />

assists students in finding off-campus employment and<br />

internships not directly related to the institution. Job and<br />

internship leads, employment referrals, and part-time, fulltime,<br />

or summer employment opportunities are available to<br />

students at KnightWork on the web site at<br />

http://careerservices.marian.edu.<br />

ICS coordinates many career preparation events on campus<br />

throughout the school year: career fairs, networking<br />

receptions, an etiquette dinner, job search seminars, and<br />

mock interviews. An additional service is guidance for<br />

graduate school planning provided through information<br />

meetings and printed materials.<br />

The office assists students in finding off-campus employment<br />

VAULT, an online career library containing current career<br />

information, is available to all students at anytime for<br />

exploring career subjects as well as researching employers<br />

and industries.<br />

Finally, COL 101, Career Exploration, offers students the<br />

opportunity to explore various career paths and vocations.<br />

Enrollment in COL 360, Career Exploration Internship, allows<br />

students to experience an exploratory internship outside<br />

their chosen major.<br />

Intramurals and Recreation<br />

Consistent with students’ needs and interests, the director of<br />

intramurals coordinates a comprehensive program of sports<br />

and recreational activities. For the active participant,<br />

activities are offered in competitive team sports such as flag<br />

football, basketball, softball, volleyball, racquetball, tennis,<br />

and dodgeball. Opportunities for participation in lowintensity<br />

exercise programs are also provided in such sports<br />

as jogging, weight lifting, and aerobics.<br />

Standards of Conduct<br />

The university assumes that when a student enrolls, a<br />

commitment is made to abide by university policies and to<br />

participate in their revision by established procedures. The<br />

policies are based on the university’s foundational values. The<br />

Office of Student Affairs assists students, faculty, and staff in<br />

formulating guidelines intended to maintain an atmosphere<br />

conducive to attaining educational goals. This office is<br />

responsible for the administration of the Code of Students<br />

Rights and Responsibilities, which is made available to<br />

students online through a link on the student affairs web<br />

page.<br />

Student Organizations and Activities<br />

The <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong> student government association<br />

provides an opportunity for the expression of student views<br />

and interest; all currently enrolled students are members.<br />

The governing board, elected representatives of the student<br />

body, is designed to assist in providing for students’ social,<br />

cultural, and physical well-being and to help promote better<br />

educational standards.<br />

The student government association provides an opportunity<br />

for students to participate in the governance of the college. It<br />

also affords a means whereby students may gain experience<br />

and training through participation in community leadership,<br />

for student cooperation and communication with the faculty<br />

and administration, and for demonstrating that students may<br />

effectively and responsibly govern themselves.<br />

Opportunities for student involvement are available through<br />

departmental, social interest, professional, athletic, and<br />

nationally affiliated clubs and organizations. For a complete<br />

list of campus groups please contact the Office of Student<br />

Affairs. The Director of Student Activities and Orientation<br />

coordinates and promotes a variety of educational, volunteer,<br />

recreational, social, and cultural, and entertainment<br />

programs and services.<br />

Numerous opportunities are available to develop leadership<br />

skills, interact with students, faculty and staff, and to share in<br />

personally enriching experiences through participation in<br />

student government, clubs and organizations, and in class<br />

offices.<br />

Student Publications<br />

On-campus publications include the Knight Times, the<br />

student newspaper and the Fioretti, a student literary<br />

magazine.<br />
