Statistical Methods 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: MAT 105. A study of the basic concepts and<br />

methods of statistics, including descriptive statistics,<br />

probability, sampling theory and practice, hypothesis testing,<br />

and correlation. Computers are introduced as tools of<br />

analysis. A basic statistics course for students from fields in<br />

which statistics find application. This course partially satisfies<br />

the general education requirement in the scientific and<br />

quantitative understanding category.<br />

Race Team Management 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: 135 and 139. An in-depth analysis of managing<br />

a race team, this course will introduce the student to the<br />

concept of team organizational structure. Students will be<br />

familiar with the potential of effective teams and their ability<br />

to accomplish tasks that the individual could not accomplish<br />

alone. Students will develop an understanding of the power<br />

of teams and the importance of their components consisting<br />

of structure, process, culture, and politics. Topics will include<br />

developing a business plan, writing a mission statement,<br />

team structure, strategic goals and objectives, budgeting and<br />

financial accounting, marketing and public relations, risk<br />

management sponsorships, and contracts. Students will be<br />

exposed to current practicing professionals through guest<br />

lectures. A conceptualized race team business plan will be the<br />

Principles of Marketing 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 101 and ECN 200, 201 or 202. A study of the<br />

process of planning and implementing the business activities<br />

that facilitates and expedites development of satisfying<br />

exchange relationships through the creation, distribution,<br />

promotion, and pricing of goods, services and ideas. (SEM)<br />

Principles of Management 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 101 or permission. This course is designed to<br />

present a realistic picture of the content of modern<br />

managerial challenges. It includes a study of the<br />

fundamentals of management principles and techniques for<br />

all fields of business: business objectives, policies, functions,<br />

executive leadership, organization structure and morale,<br />

operative and control procedures. (SEM)<br />

Business Practicum 1-3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: Departmental permission and freshman or<br />

sophomore class standing. Students work in supervised public<br />

or private industry positions related to business applications.<br />

Practica are expected to be entry-level positions which give<br />

students an introduction to administrative business practices<br />

and policies. Placements may or may not be paid positions.<br />

Students are evaluated both by their supervisor on the job<br />

and by means of a paper submitted as an end-of-course<br />

project to the monitoring faculty. A minimum of 60 hours of<br />

actual work experience is required for each credit earned.<br />

Foundations of Entrepreneurship 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 101 or permission. This course introduces the<br />

basic elements of cash flow management and the business<br />

plan, and prepares students for the more advanced<br />

presentation of these concepts offered later in the program.<br />

Students learn the concepts of opportunity scanning and<br />

opportunity recognition. Students conduct a self-assessment<br />

to help them better understand their personal values and<br />

aspirations to help guide their entrepreneurial career. The<br />

variety of types of entrepreneurial ventures are introduced.<br />

Accounting and Finance<br />

for Small Business 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: 101. This course is an introduction to accounting<br />

principles, practices, and systems for entrepreneurs and<br />

proprietors of small businesses. Integrated in the accounting<br />

principles is financial statement analysis including ratio<br />

analysis, time value of money, and the risk/return tradeoff.<br />

Business Career Seminar 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: Sophomore class standing or permission. This<br />

course develops students’ abilities to successfully handle<br />

many of the challenges faced when approaching the job<br />

market either as job seekers or as prospective employers.<br />

Career planning, industry research, preparation and<br />

evaluation of appropriate documentation (resume, cover<br />

letter, thank you letter), and interviewing techniques are<br />

addressed. Peer coaching and evaluation are stressed. (SEM)<br />

Business Law 3 credits<br />

A study of the legal relationships of various business entities<br />

and the nature of law and the court systems. Topics include<br />

constitutional law, torts, contracts, crimes, commercial law<br />

and sales, property, litigation, alternative dispute resolution,<br />

agency, partnerships, corporations, unfair competition,<br />
