Special waiver requests concerning the above policy must be<br />

submitted in writing and approved by the Dean of Academic<br />

Affairs. Waiver request forms are available in the Office of the<br />

Registrar.<br />

Equivalent Major or Minor<br />

An equivalent major or minor may be granted to a student if<br />

the student has already earned a bachelor degree from<br />

<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong> or another regionally accredited university<br />

or university. Official records indicating this must become<br />

part of the student’s permanent file. All specific requirements<br />

of the new major or minor must be met.<br />

There must be an essential difference between earlier major<br />

programs of study and the new major or minor; between<br />

earlier minor programs of study and this minor. However,<br />

under this policy, a student might be able to upgrade a minor<br />

to a major.<br />

A minimum of 12 credits in the major must be earned at<br />

<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Second Bachelor and Associate Degrees<br />

Students who have earned a bachelor degree from <strong>Marian</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> or another regionally accredited college or<br />

university may, with the approval of the registrar, continue<br />

their education as a special non-degree student or as a<br />

second degree student.<br />

A second bachelor degree may be granted to a student if all<br />

specific requirements of the new degree and major are met,<br />

and there is an essential difference between the two degrees.<br />

A minimum of 30 new credits is earned for the second<br />

bachelor degree, regardless of the number of credits needed<br />

to meet the above requirements. A minimum of 12 new<br />

credits must be earned in the major.<br />

A second associate degree may be granted to a student if all<br />

specific requirements of the new degree and major are met<br />

and there is an essential difference between the degrees. A<br />

minimum of 15 new credits are earned for the associate<br />

degree, regardless of the number of credits needed to meet<br />

the above requirements. A minimum of nine new credits<br />

must be earned in the major.<br />
