ART 371<br />

Introduction to Art Therapy 4 credits<br />

Prerequisite: PSY 230. A survey of art therapy techniques,<br />

history, and case studies. One hour lecture, six hours contact<br />

per week. Cross-listed as PSY 371. (2FE)<br />

ART 375<br />

Documentary Photography 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ART 255. In this hands-on class students will be<br />

given the choice between working in film or digital formats.<br />

Students will then conceive their own documentary story<br />

framing it in terms of ‘narrative’ form and taking it through all<br />

stages of editing in readying it for their final portfolio. Six<br />

hours of contact time per week. (2FE)<br />

ART 380<br />

Special Topics in Art 2-3 credits<br />

Selected topics deemed important by the department to the<br />

advancing student in art. May be repeated for credit if topics<br />

vary. Depending on the course, student will enroll for two or<br />

three credits. (ADD)<br />

ART 381<br />

Special Topics: Indianapolis Art Center 1-2 credits<br />

These select courses are held at the Indianapolis Art Center<br />

and are available for college activity credit. For more<br />

information, contact the Department of Visual Arts, the Office<br />

of the Registrar, or the Indianapolis Art Center. Studio fee<br />

required by IAC. Depending on the course, student will enroll<br />

for one or two credits. (ADD)<br />

ART 426<br />

Identity Systems and Logo Designs 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ART 226 or permission. Students seek functional<br />

design solutions that meet specific communication goals (i.e.<br />

students will look at how designers problem solve for clients).<br />

Through library and internet research, target market analysis,<br />

client need assessment, written explanations, sketching, and<br />

brainstorming students will realize a final idea that reflects an<br />

entire visual/verbal identity system. Students will apply<br />

production skills to their final work. (2FE)<br />

ART 427<br />

Package Design 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ART 226 or permission. This course explores the<br />

process by which packaging and product promotions are<br />

designed (i.e. how graphic design interacts with threedimensional<br />

objects for display). This course requires written<br />

and verbal skills in communication as well as visual and<br />

compositional understanding. At this level, students are<br />

expected to have a well-rounded foundation of compositional<br />

design problem-solving skills. (2SO)<br />

ART 429<br />

Web and Media Design 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: ART 229. This course focuses on the creation of<br />

time-based, sequential, and interactive designs for the<br />

computer or video screen. Aesthetic, theoretical, and<br />

practical aspects are examined in the context. (ADD)<br />

ART 460<br />

Art Internship 3-6 credits<br />

Prerequisites: Art major, junior or senior status, 3.00 GPA in<br />

major, ART 104, 106, 201, 206, 221, and highest numbered<br />

course in the concentration, portfolio including resume and<br />

professional quality slides, and department permission,<br />

interview, and approval of site. This course is an approved,<br />

not-for-pay internship or work experience for <strong>Marian</strong><br />

<strong>University</strong> students majoring in a particular area in the visual<br />

arts. Students must have completed 80 credits towards<br />

degree with at least 30 credits taken at <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>.<br />

Field experience is contracted between the student and the<br />

cooperating establishment with the approval of the<br />

department liaison. The contract includes goals, procedures,<br />

credit assignment, supervision, and evaluation criteria.<br />

Credits earned in the internship are not included in the 40credit<br />

limit in the student’s major. Student may enroll for<br />

three to six credits. Graded S/U. (SEM)<br />

ART 461<br />

Art Therapy Internship 3 credits<br />

Prerequisites: Junior or senior art major concentrating in art<br />

therapy, 3.00 in both art and psychology courses, a 3.00<br />

overall GPA, ART 371, completed resume, and department<br />

permission, interview and approval of site. This course is an<br />

approved, not-for-pay internship or work experience for<br />

<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong> students majoring in art therapy. Students<br />

must have completed 80 credits towards degree with at least<br />

30 credits taken at <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Field experience is<br />

contracted between the student and the cooperating<br />

Senior Studio Seminar 1 credit<br />

A departmental seminar for majors in art and art history. Fine<br />

art and its relationship to the general education topic and<br />

assigned readings are discussed. Students are required to<br />

participate in a class project and to attend all required<br />
