Physical Activities for the<br />

Elementary Grades 3 credits<br />

This course is designed to incorporate physical activities and<br />

games into the elementary physical education classroom.<br />

Emphasis will be on activities of play, games, lifetime fitness,<br />

playground/gymnasium procedures and lesson planning. This<br />

course requires the student to elementary classroom a<br />

minimum of 32 hours per semester. (2SO)<br />

Nutritional Principles for Sport and Exercise<br />

Study of the nutritional needs of the athlete and active<br />

person. Emphasis includes: fat, carbohydrate, protein,<br />

vitamin, mineral and water needs of the active person;<br />

energy metabolism, food and fluid intake prior to, during and<br />

after exercise; nutritional management of anemia and<br />

diabetes; nutrient needs of the young and old athlete. (ADD)<br />

An examination of legal issues in sport environments. A study<br />

of legal duties and responsibilities, negligence, due process,<br />

player eligibility, drug testing, and sex discrimination is<br />

Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries 3 credits<br />

Prerequisite: BIO 225 or permission. Study of factors which<br />

affect maximum human performance in athletic competition.<br />

Techniques in shielding the athlete from possible damaging<br />

sequelae and in restoring him/her to maximum performance<br />

after injury. Consideration of the kinesiological, physiological,<br />

Internship 4-12 credits<br />

Experiences in teaching, coaching, training, intramurals,<br />

recreation leadership, or sport information. The student has<br />

the opportunity to do fieldwork in one of these areas. This<br />

course may be repeated for an accumulated total of 12<br />

credits. Does not count toward the credits required in the<br />

Adaptive Physical Education 3 credits<br />

This course is designed to provide basic knowledge pertaining<br />

to students with disabilities in the physical education<br />

classroom. Additionally, federal and state laws pertaining to<br />

the education of individuals with disabilities are addressed.<br />

Practical, on-site work at a local school is included. (ADD)<br />

Personal and Community<br />

Health and Safety 3 credits<br />

An investigation into personal and community health<br />

problems. <strong>Course</strong> work is focused on preparing the individual<br />

to teach health at the high school level. (ADD)<br />
