School of Business<br />
The School of Business advances the mission of <strong>Marian</strong><br />
<strong>University</strong> in providing an excellent education that profoundly<br />
transforms lives, society, and the world through its own<br />
mission: to prepare students, through excellence in teaching<br />
and learning, to become leaders in their chosen professions,<br />
and to make ethical and informed decisions in their daily<br />
lives.<br />
The School of Business offers five majors, nine minors, and<br />
four concentrations in areas of accounting, business<br />
administration, business creation and development<br />
(entrepreneurship), business in healthcare, business<br />
technology, economics, finance, management, marketing,<br />
motorsports management, nonprofit management, and sport<br />
marketing as well as and provide foundational curriculum for<br />
the general education program.<br />

ACCOUNTING (ACC)<br />
The accounting program’s academic credits are accepted by<br />
the Indiana State Board of Public Accountancy for<br />
qualification to sit for the Uniform CPA (Certified Public<br />
Accountant) Examination and the Institute of Management<br />
Accountants CMA (Certified Management Accountant)<br />
Examination.<br />
Major for Bachelor of Science Degree (B.S.) in Accounting:<br />
30 hours including 210, 2<strong>11</strong>, 310, 320, 321, 430, 431, 440,<br />
455, and FIN 420. Also required: BUS 101, 205, 240, 250, 290,<br />
301, 401, ECN 201, 202, FIN <strong>11</strong>1, 310, 3<strong>11</strong>, MIS 101, and 201.<br />
150-Hour Accounting Certificate Program: The State of<br />
Indiana requires that a first time CPA exam candidate must<br />
obtain at least 150 credit hours of college education,<br />
including a bachelor or higher degree conferred by an<br />
accredited college or university.<br />
This law applies only to individuals who plan to sit for the CPA<br />
examination. Students receive a B.S. degree in accounting<br />
from <strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong> after the completion of the traditional<br />
four-year program of 128 credit hours. Students choosing to<br />
complete of the 150-Hour Accounting Certificate Program<br />
may do so through a variety of options and will receive a<br />
certificate at graduation.<br />
<strong>Marian</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s 150-Hour Accounting Certificate Program<br />
can be completed in a four or five year program option. Also,<br />
by approval, undergraduate and graduate courses from other<br />
accredited colleges and universities may apply.<br />
Minor: 21 credits including 210, 2<strong>11</strong>, 310, 430, FIN <strong>11</strong>1, and<br />
six credits of approved ACC electives. Also required: BUS 101,<br />
290, 301,<br />
MIS 101, and ECN 202.<br />
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (BUS)<br />
Concentrations:<br />
Business Creation and Development: 12 credits in business.<br />
Required courses are 262, 372, 365, and 485. Only available<br />
to majors in the School of Business.<br />
Human Resources Management: 12 hours in business<br />
requiring BUS 351, 352, PSY 310, and one course from the<br />
following: BUS 358, 361, or 362. Only available to majors in<br />
the School of Business.<br />
Motorsports Management: 12 credits including BUS 135, BUS<br />
222, BUS 3<strong>11</strong>/ESS 310, and BUS 348. BUS in a Motorsports<br />
area is strongly recommended. The concentration is only<br />
open to majors in the School of Business.<br />
Nonprofit management: 12 credits in business including 370,<br />
371, 373, and 375.<br />
Sport Marketing: 12 hours in business including 3<strong>11</strong>/ESS 310,<br />
303/ESS354, B348, and ECN. Only available to majors in the<br />
School of Business or department of Exercise and Sport<br />
Studies as long as pre-requisites are met.<br />
Minors:<br />
Business Administration: 18 credits of business courses<br />
including 101, 240, 250, 301, and two department approved<br />
electives. Also required: ACC 210 and ECN 200.<br />
Business Creation and Development: 18 credits in business.<br />
Required courses are 262, 372, 264, 374, 365, and 485. Not<br />
available to majors in the School of Business.<br />
Business in Healthcare Minor : 18 credits. Required courses:<br />
101, 358 (or equivalent), ECN 315, and an additional nine<br />
credits from ACC 210, BUS 240, 351, 352, 401, and PSY 310.<br />
Only open to Nursing majors.<br />
Business Technology: 18 credits in MIS courses. Required<br />
courses: MIS 101, 201, and four courses chosen from MIS<br />
290, 310, 317, 320, and 330.<br />
Motorsports Management: 18 credits including BUS 240,<br />
250, 135, 222, 3<strong>11</strong>/HPE310, and BUS 348. BUS 367 in a<br />
Motorsports area is strongly recommended.<br />
