Litter Reducer
This great time saver is used to reduce litter to workable quantities for extracting organisms using
the Berlese funnel. From Europe, this beautifully made, two-handed sifter quickly reduces bulky
samples to manageable size prior to final extracting. By placing litter on the internal screen and
shaking with the two handles, the smaller particles fall to the bottom of the sifter where they can be
removed and processed easily.
Two 12" (30.5 cm) diameter screens are provided. The 1 cm screen can be used first and then the
sample can be sifted through the 50 mm screen for further reduction.

Aquatic Drift Net
The aquatic drift net is used to monitor and collect organisms from streams. It features
a welded stainless steel frame fitted with a one meter (39.4") long collecting
bag. The Nytex bag is available in three mesh sizes, and is fitted with a sewn-in 8 oz.
polyethylene collection bottle and cap at the tip to facilitate removal of specimens.
The 12" (30.5 cm) square opening of the net may be staked into the substrate
allowing the net to be unattended. The drift net can be tethered to a stream bank to
prevent accidental loss.

Hess Type Benthic Macroinvertebrate Sampler
This cylindrical freshwater sampler permits quantitative assesment of benthic invertebrates.
Based on a design modification by William R. English, it functions in a lesscomplicated,
more economical manner than the original Hess sampler.
Modified from an 8-inch plastic tee, it has a conical bag with 8 oz. polyethylene
collector at the tip. The bag is attached to the side outlet of the tee.
Using handholds on two sides of the top, the sampler is rotated firmly into stream
substrate. The collection bag is oriented downstream. It is secured to the tee with a
stainless steel hose clamp. The upstream side is cut open to stream flow, protected
from larger floating objects by a 10 x 10 mesh stainless steel screen.
The sampler is 18" (45.7 cm) high with notched bottom edge. The three cylindrical
openings are 8" (20.3 cm) in diameter. The Nytex collecting bag is 36" (91.4 cm) long.
Three mesh sizes are available to handle a variety of aquatic environments, and
replacement collecting bags are available.

Perfect for use in insect behavior and environmental studies requiring measurement
of air currents and temperature. One-piece construction with built-in probe.
Read out in any of five scales: meters per sec. (.4~30); feet per minute (80~5900);
knots per hr. (.8~58); miles per hr. (.09~68); kilometers per hr. (1.4~108). Displays
temperatures in °C or °F.
Advanced features include a RS-232 port, continuous moving average, auto power

Weather Station
Lightweight, compact instrument offers fingertip access to major weather measurements. It
measures altitude to 30,000 feet (9,000 meters) +/- 10 feet, temperature +/- 2°F, and barometric
air pressure +/- .025 in Hg.
This weather station provides a 16-hour pressure history bar graph, accurate 12-24 hour
weather forecast, severe weather audio alarm, animal activity scale, and time alarm. It also
provides sunrise/sunset times +/- 4 minutes, and moonrise/moonset times +/- 15 minutes. Two
CR1202 3-volt lithium batteries are included in the backlit display unit as well as a protective
vinyl case with window.
