Luminous Paints
and Powders
For biologists using black light (ultraviolet) equipment,
luminous marking is valuable aid in behavior and population
studies. Wide variety of experiments is facilitated
by marking arthropods or other animals for easy location
and identification.
Marking paint and pigment powders manufactured by
Shannon Luminous Materials, Inc. were originally developed
for the theatrical industry. Non-toxic paint is acrylic
and fluorescence does not wash off. Using the powder is
especially convenient for marking small insects that need
not be treated individually. Powder remains on specimens
indefinitely, permitting identification at a later time
under UV fluorescence. Both paint and powder are visible
in daylight.
These items are listed in blue, red, yellow and white.
Both paint and powder are available in a 3-color kit. Individual
paint colors are packaged in 4 oz. glass jars; individual
powder colors are packaged in 2 oz. polystyrene
jars.

All-Weather Notebooks, Paper, Pen
‘Rite-in-the-Rain’ paper was created specifically for writing field notes
in wet or humid weather. Its unique chemical coating sheds water,
making it possible to write clear, readable notes during the heaviest
rainstorm. The paper’s wet strength characteristics permit good
pencil impressions even after accidental dunking in a rain puddle.
The environmentally friendly notebooks, copier paper, and pen described
at right are your best insurance against lost time and ruined
field data or records.

Hand-Held Wind Meter
Economical device for measuring wind speed is frequently
important for insect monitoring and behavior
studies, or for anticipating short-term weather changes.
This convenient, pocket-sized wind meter provides
precise, reliable readings. It is simple to use, giving a
direct reading so no calculations are required. Two
scales are provided for maximum readability and accuracy.
The 1179K has scales from 3.5 - 16 kilometers
per hour, and 8 - 104 kmh. The 1179M has scales
from 2 - 10 miles per hour, and 6 - 66 mph.
Wind meter is 6-1/4" (16 cm) long, supplied with weatherproof
plastic case and instructions.

Rain Gauge

Large opening and proven wedge design of Tru-Chek7 rain
gauge results in accurate readings measured on two easyto-read
scales. One side measures in inches, from 0.01"
up to 6"; the opposite side has a metric scale from 0.5 mm
to 150 mm.
One-piece, heavy weather-resistant clear plastic gauge
resists discoloration. An aluminum bracket is included for
mounting to post or fence. Gauge is 13" (33 cm) long, with
top opening 2-1/2" x 2-1/4".

Field Note Form
Enables collectors to gather basic ecological
data for all insect specimens collected at
a single site. Successful form provides a
simple yet inclusive note keeping system.
Front of the sheet lists time, location, general
environmental condition, and species
collected. Back is reserved for rearing data.
Printed sheets are 8-1/2" x 11" (21.7 x 28
cm), three-hole punched, and padded in
