In response to requests for an aquatic net that can be packed,
carried or shipped conveniently while maintaining heavy-duty performance
characteristics, "D"-shape nets now have the optional
feature of a two-piece handle.
Nets are 70" (178 cm) overall, with smooth, lacquered hardwood
handles 1-1/8 x 60" (3 x 152cm). When dismantled, overall length is
38" (96.5 cm).
A heavy copper tube at the center of the handle is fitted with internal
brass and steel fasteners. The two handle sections are screwed
together inside the rugged copper tubing. The net ring is permanently
fastened with epoxy adhesive to a non-rusting heavy copper
ferrule. The ring and bags are as described in the box above right.
These nets weigh 3.5 pounds. They can be shipped through the
postal system or other carriers to destinations outside the U.S.
An effective method for collecting larval
insects and other macroinverte-brates
found in freshwater environments. The
Dendy design larval plate bottom sampler
is submerged in a stream, river or
lake bottom. Organisms moving through
the water reach the surface of plates
where they tend to cling and develop. Optimum
period for leaving the sampler in
place is two weeks.
The multiple plate sampler consists of
nine 3" square pieces of 1/8" tempered
hardboard, separated by plastic spacers to keep plates in position.
Plates are connected through the center by a stainless
steel eyebolt. The sampler is easily dismantled by removing the
wing nut at the end of the bolt. By exposing both sides of the
small plates, about one square foot of surface is made available.
This simple yet highly efficient sampler is inexpensive and compact,
recommended when sampling from many locations in a
stream or lake is desirable.

Heavy Duty Aquatic Nets

Heavy duty, long lasting nets in this series are designed for use by
benthologists and entomologists needing a strong net for fresh
water collecting, scraping stream bottoms, collecting bottom dwelling
organisms, or sweeping in thick vegetation.
Smooth, lacquered, hardwood, handles are 5 feet long, 1-1/8" diameter,
permanently attached with epoxy adhesive to a 5/16" cadmium
plated steel net ring. Nets are 70" (178cm) overall. Net bags
are made of heavy cotton and polyester canvas, stitched with nonrotting
thread. They feature a white, 500-micron Nytex 7 screen
bottom 8" below the net rim. They also include a 4" skirt to protect
the mesh from snags and wear, have internal Nylon piping, and are
secured to the net ring by heavily plated hog rings. For collecting
very small aquatic insects or other organisms, a bag with 7291B
Nytex 7 Nylon screen, 150 microns, see page 49, is available for
use with the 7412D net.
Diameter for the 7410R round net bag, and length of the side of the
7410T triangular net bag is 10" (25cm). Flat side of the 7412D net
bag measures 12" (30.5cm). Opening of the ‘D’ shaped net permits
simple insertion of collecting pan or other container. Replacement
net bags with plated hog ring fasteners are available.
Nets weigh 3 lbs. Due to their length, they must be shipped by
U.P.S., FedEx, or Parcel Post (cannot ship via Postal Service to
destinations outside the U.S.); oversize cubic inch dimensional
weight surcharge applies to these aquatic nets.

Modeled on the traditional kick net, this small
yet effective seine is simple and quick to
assemble. It is used by dislodging substrate
upcurrent from the net, by walking forward
in still water to trap aquatic insects and crustaceans,
or held stationary in heavy water
allowing specimens to drift into the net.
The netting portion is 24" wide x 20" high,
made of 14 x 18 mesh black polyester, reinforced
at the sides and bottom with Dacron
tape. Grommets supply stability at the bottom;
Velcro tabs attach at the top.
Collapsible side shafts have four swaged
sections of 3/8" anodized, hard aluminum,
connected with bungee cord. They are surprisingly
rigid when assembled, and can be
used in fast moving water. Extended length
of shafts is 31".
When disassembled, the seine is 9-1/2" long. It weighs only six
oz., a very convenient item to keep in a jacket pocket or vehicle
glove compartment. Instructions for easy set-up and suggested
seining techniques are included.
