1023 Series Adjustable Spreading Boards<br />
Used to pin wings of Lepidoptera into a fixed position until set, these<br />
spreading boards are unique in offering two separate methods of pin<br />
adjustment. Pinning strip is solid balsa, and accepts mounting pins at<br />
any depth along the pin shaft. This pinning strip may be adjusted<br />
vertically to suit user preference, and may be tacked or glued permanently<br />
in the desired position.<br />
Both boards feature adjustable horizontal pinning grooves, from 0 to<br />
7/8" (0-22mm). Basswood mounting surfaces are angled at 165°.<br />
Balsa pinning strip is 3/8" (16mm) thick, and 1" (20mm) wide. Boards<br />
are 12" (305mm) long.<br />
The 1023E board is used to mount varied sizes of specimens. Pinning<br />
surfaces are 2" wide (each side); board width is 4-7/8" (124mm).<br />
The 1023F board is intended for mounting large Lepidoptera. Pinning<br />
surfaces are 3" wide (each side); board width is 6-7/8" (175mm).<br />

Spreading Board Kit<br />
Ideal for Lepidopterists or entomology classes. Kit provides<br />
components for 12 spreading boards as described for the 1023E<br />
board listed above. User can assemble boards at considerably<br />
lower cost than if purchased in completed form.<br />
Center groove in the boards may be set at whatever width is<br />
required; or with the purchase of optional hardware kit, groove<br />
may be made adjustable from 0 to 7/8". Boards are 12" long,<br />
and basswood pinning surfaces are 2" wide. Balsa pinning strip<br />
may be set at height preferred by the user.<br />
A hammer is the only tool required for assembling boards with<br />
fixed pinning surfaces. A 3/16" drill is needed to complete adjustable<br />
boards. Instructions are included in each kit.<br />

A longer length is available in 1022 pinning boards. The 3/8" rigid plastazote<br />
pinning strip holds a pin securely. Sufficient clearance permits mounting<br />
the insect at the top third of pin. Basswood mounting surfaces are<br />
angled at 165°. A 1/8" hardboard floor is provided to prevent accidental<br />
disturbance of pinned insects from the bottom. For large specimens,<br />
an adjustable board with flat pinning surfaces and two stabilizing adjustment<br />
screws on each end has been added to this series.<br />

Unique adjustable spreading board<br />
is unmatched in ease of use and<br />
versatility. Angled pinning surfaces<br />
are select balsa, 2-1/2" wide x 1/4"<br />
thick, fastened internally to a<br />
sturdy, vacuum-formed plastic<br />
base. The base is cemented to a rigid hardboard floor to avoid<br />
warping, provide rigidity and resistance to pressure.<br />
A plastazote foam strip, 3/8" thick, is inserted in the center<br />
pinning groove, which is adjustable from 0" to 3/4". Width is<br />
changed by pushing the balsa strips across the smooth surfaces<br />
to the desired width. Adjusting screws increase or decrease<br />
resistance as needed, or lock width into permanent<br />
position.<br />
Balsa pinning strips are resurfaced by wiping with wet, soapy<br />
sponge to close pin holes, then sanding with fine paper when dry.<br />
Overall length is 14-1/2" (36.8 cm); overall width is 5" (17.2 cm).<br />
