Insect Vacs
Highly portable, hand-held Insect Vacs are ideal for collecting
mosquitoes from dark, inaccessible spots where they congregate.
They are also convenient for sampling or examination
of potential disease vectors and agricultural pests such as
ants, flies, & small moths, or for collecting mosquitoes and
other small insects from cages .
Each Insect Vac is powered by a modified Black & Decker
Dust-Buster TM . It has a filter to limit intake of foreign materials,
and a nose section with clear acrylic tube holding a removable
collecting chamber 5" (12.7 cm) long x 2" (5.1 cm) in
diameter. This versatile chamber has aluminum screen across
one end for air flow, and a flap valve at the other. Supplemental
end cap prevents escape of specimens when chamber is
removed. By using multiple chambers, live specimens can be
gathered from several locations and taken to the laboratory
for identification or study.
Vacs are 19-1/2" (49.5 cm) long, and weigh only two pounds.

1135C Aspirator
A superior device for collecting soft-bodied insects
which must be kept in, or collected into alcohol.
Designed by T.M. Allen, aspirator is a double chambered
unit with a 2-dram inner vial filled with alcohol
or other fluid into which live specimens are
dropped.
The suction tube has a flexible connection
fitted directly to the clear plastic outer vial
(30 x 100 mm) through a two-hole stopper.
The pickup tube for the collection
of insects is also clear plastic. It is
connected by a 24" latex tube leading
directly through the stopper
and into the inner vial of alcohol.
Air movement through the aspirator
is screened twice with
220 mesh nylon. The inner
vial may be removed and
capped as needed, and a
new vial installed. Extra 2-dram screw cap vials are available.

Blowing Aspirator
Inhaling small particles, such as infected soils
or dust, insect parts or feces, when collecting
with a standard aspirator can pose a health hazard
for medical and agricultural entomologists.
This new blowing aspirator eliminates the possibility
of inhaling foreign matter into the lungs,
trachea or sinus cavities.
BioQuip has developed the unique blowing aspirator
from designs submitted by entomologist
Clyde Barnhart. Although a blowing-type aspirator
is intrinsically not as efficient as a suckingtype
model and requires more lung power, this
is the most effective product we have seen or
tested.

Insect Vacs,
Aspirators
Cordless, for use with U.S. domestic electrical current, 120 volts, 60
Hz, 5 watts. A battery charger/storage base, to be wall mounted
near an electrical outlet, allows the unit to be recharged continuously
when not in use. Five to eight minutes of running time is available
from a single charge. After two hours of recharging, the Insect Vac
regains 20% of full charge, and is fully recharged in 16 hours.

DC Insect Vac
Built for 12-volt DC use. Channel is supplied for winding and storing
16-foot cord that plugs into cigarette lighter of a vehicle or into portable
power source such as BioQuip’s 2861 battery packs.

This widely used aspirator fits
easily into a pocket, and facilitates
capture of insects too
small to be picked up with forceps.
Intake and exhaust tubes
are aluminum, and the mouthpiece
is 1/4" natural latex tubing.
The exhaust tube is protected
with fine 220 mesh nylon to limit
inhalation of foreign matter.
Two 9-dram clear styrene tubes with snap-on caps, 1" x 2-3/4", are
supplied as containers. Additional or replacement containers are
available.

A venturi system is contained in the collecting
head, which is cast of urethane plastic. Vinyl
tubing is used for the 9" intake duct. Natural
latex tubing is used for the 24" blowing tube.
The collector is a 2-oz. clear styrene vial, which
can be removed, capped and replaced with another
vial. The vial has a mounting ring with a
fine woven, nylon screen to prevent loss of specimens
during vial replacement. The screen top
can be removed when the vial is capped, or left
on the vial for oxygen circulation without using
the cap.
The blowing aspirator is 4" long (9.5" overall
with intake tube) x 1.75" diameter (10 x 4.4 cm),
and weighs 4 oz. One extra vial with solid cap is
supplied.
