to the front side of the
covers for easy access and for closing.
Covers can be brushed with sucrose or other solution for feeding
caged insects, and they may be washed or replaced as needed.

Lindgren Funnel Trap
Versatile and effective trapping system was developed by Staffan Lindgren at Simon Fraser University
and is successful for monitoring or mass trapping of ambrosia and bark beetles in coniferous forests.
Traps were designed to use semiochemicals to attract beetles, but they capture other tree pests as well
when using various crushed grains as lures. (BioQuip does not supply pheromones or other lures; they
must be purchased locally.)
Traps consist of a series of four, eight, or 12 plastic funnels arranged vertically. The conical shape of
each funnel allows an unobstructed 360-degree catch radius. The downward angle of each funnel
causes fast-approaching beetles to be deflected downward into the collecting cup. Escape is prevented
by the baffling arrangement of funnels. Capture does not rely on sticky surfaces or chemical
pesticides. Beetles are killed through heat and dehydration. A conical drain in the collection bottle
increases drainage and prevents clogging from debris. A collecting cup without drain is available as a
separate item for those using a liquid killing agent,
Traps are hung from branches or from rope strung between trees. They are light and collapsible for easy
transport.

An old and successful
method for taking
insects is to knock
them from branches
of shrubs and trees
onto a collecting sheet.
The user strikes or
shakes a branch with
one hand while holding
the sheet underneath at one corner with the other hand. Specimens
falling onto the sheet are picked up by forceps, aspirator, or
camel hair brush.
Two models are available. Both sheets are securely hemmed on all
sides, with double pockets on all four corners.

Beating Sheets
Recently redesigned and improved cage frames are made of
aluminum rods and high density Delrin plastic connectors. They are
assembled quickly by press fitting rod sections together. No tools
are required for cage set-up.
Field cages are available in two basic sizes. The height of either
cage can be doubled by adding a frame extension consisting of four
supplemental aluminum rods and connectors. Cages with extension
frames are well suited for placement over growing or potted plants.
Length of the cage covers allows them to be tucked under the bottom
of the frame, or anchored with soil.

Canvas Beating Sheet
The 2840C sheet is made of sturdy natural canvas (marine boat
cover), for easy visibility of insects as they are knocked onto the
fabric. It is 28" (71 cm) square. Two sanded oak cross members
are connected with a brass pivot fastener. Collapsed for portability,
the beating sheet frame is 37" long.

Ripstop Beating Sheet
The larger 2840R is made of very lightweight nylon ripstop. Insects
are highly visible on the shiny white fabric, and are unable to cling to
the sheet because of the ripstock’s extremely close weave characteristic.
the sheet is 39" (1 meter) square. The collapsible frame
consists of four 26" sections of PVC plastic tubing, and a 4-way
connector. Collapsed length is 26". Shorter frame sections of this
model recommend its use for travel by plane or on foot.
