Glass Capsule Vials
Gelatin Capsule Vials
Gelatin capsules provide a convenient, inexpensive
means of storing small or brittle insects.
Some kinds of small insects may even be reared
successfully in these disposable capsules. For
temporary or permanent storage, capsules,
along with data labels, may be pinned through
one end with a standard insect pin. Capsule
vials are translucent, approx. 7.5 x 20mm; size
0 (8 grains).
Polyethylene Micro Vials
BioQuip’s plastic genitalia vials are a successful alternative to
glass micro vials, which have become rather expensive. These
translucent vials are used for permanent storage of small insect
parts in glycerine. Stoppers are white silicone rubber, and
seat snugly. Polyethylene micro vials are available in two sizes.
Packed in bags of 100.
Glass Micro Vials
Micro vials are used for permanent storage of small arthropod
parts such as genitalia, tarsi, or mouth parts. Glycerine is
used as a storage medium to prevent breakage of specimens
during handling, and to maintain optical clarity under magnification.
BioQuip's transparent glass genitalia vials are handmade, and
feature a flame-finished smooth rim. Stoppers are made of
white silicone rubber, and seat tightly. Parts stored in micro
vials may be kept with the donor specimen by inserting an
insect pin through the vial stopper. Glass micro vials and
stoppers are packed in bags of 100.
The wide mouth opening of glass capsule vials makes them highly suitable for general
use. Vials are made of standard Borosilicate glass tubing.
Black screw caps with Polyseal lining are 24mm. The polyethylene liner projects into
the mouth of the vial providing a double seal when screwed tightly. It virtually eliminates
evaporation of alcohol, reducing time required for collection maintenance.
The 4 dram size is used with the 1135B aspirator which allows specimens to be
collected . directly into vials that will be filled later with alcohol.
Lightweight, clear styrene tubes, with matching snap-on caps
are practical for field and lab use. The 8909 tube is used in the
1135A aspirator (page 57). Extra tubes are convenient when
collecting a large number or several different species with an
aspirator.
Good item for temporarily holding small, live specimens from
many insect orders. Tubes are compatible with alcohol for a short
period; not compatible with ethyl acetate. Six sizes are available.
