4 Potential sunscreen / overhead measurements, loc<strong>at</strong>ion, solar st<strong>at</strong>ion TU Munich<br />

Against the background of an urgently required reduction in total energy consumption of <strong>building</strong>s and<br />

in addition to the active use of solar energy in <strong>building</strong> envelopes, efficient sun protection to minimize<br />

the required cooling loads as well as the efficient use of daylight to reduce lighting energy demand is<br />

indispensible. To estim<strong>at</strong>e the potential for sun protection and the use of daylight, the collector was<br />

installed on the facade of the solar st<strong>at</strong>ion of the Department of Technology and Design of the TU<br />

Munich Chair of Building Envelopes and measured. The synthesis of solar energy by means of<br />

vacuum tubes and perfor<strong>at</strong>ed mirror with simultaneous function as a sunscreen and the concomitant<br />

reduction in cooling demand is ideal. To ensure the quality and success of the facade collector, besides<br />

its functional capability, the energy-rich sunlight, along with the daylight in the interior behind it, is<br />

masked with the help of the integr<strong>at</strong>ed perfor<strong>at</strong>ed reflector and integr<strong>at</strong>ed vacuum tubes. An adequ<strong>at</strong>e<br />

supply of glare-free daylight is vital to ensuring user uptake. Studies on the function of the collector<br />

facade for sun protection and use of daylight will be conducted to evalu<strong>at</strong>e the integr<strong>at</strong>ed system but<br />

also to optimize it. Thus, for example, the perfor<strong>at</strong>ed sections of the mirror will be altered and<br />

measured. The measurements will be carried out in a pilot series according to the issue under<br />

investig<strong>at</strong>ion and using different measurement technologies.<br />

4.1 Sun protection potential<br />

The measurements for sun protection potential were found in compar<strong>at</strong>ive measurements, ensuring the<br />

rel<strong>at</strong>ion to conventional systems in a very direct way. For this test the container was divided into two<br />

equal-sized spaces and each was fitted with the identical transparent facade elements (h = 2550 m, b =<br />

1600mm). In this way, a direct and tangible comparison can be made in addition to a precise<br />

measurement th<strong>at</strong> allows for subjective experience along with scientific measurements and their<br />
