RULE XI.-A preposition governs the objective case;<br />

as,<br />

"Of him, nnd through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory<br />

pretend to."_" Whom did he speak to ,n (BIB, &c.)<br />

RULE XII. - Certain words and phrases should be followed<br />

by appropriate prepositions; as,<br />

RULE XIII.-One substantive governs another in the<br />

possessive, when the latter substantive limits the signification<br />

of the former; as,<br />

righteon3ness' sakc." _" For con@cience' sake."-" The duke of Wellington's<br />

RULE XIV.-The SUbjunctive mood is used in dependent<br />

clauses, when both contingency or doubt, and<br />

futurity, are expressed; as,<br />

he do but touch the hills they shall smokc."-" See thou do it<br />

not" (857, &c.)<br />

RULE XV.-The infinitive mood is governed by verbs,<br />

nouns, or adjectives j as,<br />

do good and to communicate, forget not."_U To perform is better than to<br />

promise."-" Fools who came to scoff, remruned to pray."_CI Let us go."­<br />

RULE XVI.-Participles have the construction of<br />

nouns, adjectives, and verbs; as,
