In this sentence, does the subject John act, or is acted upon' "That<br />

voice represents the subject as acting (368)! Then what voice is 10l'es!<br />

Does loves assert the act of one person, or of more than one 1 What<br />

496. The facts ascertained by this process will stand in order, thus:<br />

"Loves"-a verb, transitive, ,'egulO1', conjugated love, loved, loved-found in<br />

the present indicative, active, third person Singular, and cxpresses the act<br />

of "John." This is called l'ARSING, in which the eame order of statement<br />

ehould he observed.<br />

497. This may be exte~ded, by giving the reasons of each statement, as<br />

follows:<br />

"LoVEs"-a verb, bec~use it expresses an act of its subject (314).<br />

transitive, because it expresses an act that passes over from the<br />

actor-John to an object leaming (319).<br />

regular, because its past tense and past participle end in edt<br />
