heavens. It is of three kinds, varying in degree and<br />

intensity.<br />

The #ret is<br />

THE PRAYER OF WORDS,<br />

which are effectual only when energized by<br />

Spirit.<br />

The second is<br />

the Holy<br />

THE PRAYER OF THOUGHT,<br />

which is generally deeper, often more sincere and thoro,<br />

and of course more continuous.<br />

The prayer of thought<br />

can only be effectual as inspired by the Holy Spirit, and<br />

for the purpose it is necessary that we live in the Spirit,<br />

and take step by step with the Spirit.<br />

But there is a third kind of prayer which is as high<br />

above these as Heaven isahove the Earth. It <strong>com</strong>es to<br />

us in the Inner Solitude when we cease utterly from<br />

our own thinking and willing, and<br />

LET GOD PRAY IN US.<br />

We are living in days of great tribulation; days of the<br />

anguish of the birth-throes of a New Creation. It is<br />

more than ever necessary in these days that we should<br />

know how to pray.<br />

The message of the Eternal <strong>com</strong>es<br />

therefore, to each one of us, saying, "Present your whole<br />

being as a prayer-instrument to God, that the Spirit<br />

Himself may pray in you, the universal prayer for the<br />

whole creation."<br />

For we who are the Sons of God, thru<br />

whom the whole creation is to be redeemed from the<br />

bondage of corruption, know not what to pray for as we<br />

ought, but the Spirit Himself maketh intercession, on our<br />

behalf, and on behalf of the whole universe, with groanings<br />

which cannot be uttered. That is, with<br />

THE DESIRES OF GOD<br />

for the Spirit alone knoweth what the will of God is,<br />

"The things of God none knoweth save the spirit of God."<br />

The chief requirement then is passivity, as absolute and<br />

utter and <strong>com</strong>plete as if we were dead. The Scriptures<br />

abound with exhortations to this effect: "Be still and
