ways that are so inbred in us all that it takes very careful<br />

and prayerful watching to be able to detect this very<br />

grave error in ourselves. We will now look at a few of<br />

the most <strong>com</strong>mon ways of being untruthful.<br />

One very <strong>com</strong>mon way to be untruthful is thru exaggeration.<br />

Sometimes we want to make an event or circumstance<br />

appear very large in order to impress our<br />

ideas on others. If we analyze our statements correctly,<br />

we see that we have not strictly told the truth.<br />

Again, others belittle a statement or occurrance, in<br />

order to present the view that they want their hearers to<br />

accept.<br />

This is not respecting the truth under all circumstances;<br />

and it often causes as much trouble as the one<br />

who exaggerates.<br />

Again there are those who seemingly have great respect<br />

for the truth who only half listen to statements<br />

made by others; therefore they do not get their thought,<br />

and when they repeat their statements they put others in<br />

a false light. The ones who thus err probably do so thru<br />

having their own minds so lilled with what they think<br />

the speaker ought to say that they really think he said<br />

it. Persons addicted to this fault would (ind its great<br />

safeguard not to repeat things told to them by others.<br />

This is a safeguard to all, for it is very seldom that one<br />

is required to repeat what another has said; but if one is<br />

so required, one should be very careful that he gets the<br />

thought of the words, rather than the words themselves.<br />

Every one has heard some very expert lying done by repeating<br />

the exact words of another but using a different<br />

tone of voice.<br />

Still others show a great disrespect for the truth, in<br />

repeating only a part of what they have heard or seen,<br />

and in repressing the part that they do not want their<br />

heaters to know.<br />

This often makes the worst kind of a<br />

falsehood; for if there is one kind of a falsehood that is
