particular equilibrium, sleep and recuperaticn is a vital<br />

necessity for all; and the cessation of exhaustive labor is<br />

so beneficial that men of all classes seek a retreat into<br />

the quiet habitation of nature, where the infiuence of<br />

mountains and valleys, of woods and meadow, of brooks<br />

and rivers, with blooming flowers scenting the air, sooth,<br />

quiet, and reestablish the equilibrium of the nervous<br />

system and conjure in man that peace which one feels in<br />

the arms of mother nature. For truly to enter that<br />

world without bringing into it the struggles of individualism,<br />

is to step back into that era of peace, as well as<br />

man's ancient existence, known as the age of Cohesion<br />

which ruled man during the infancy of the race, termed<br />

the Golden Age, in which all her creation-whose apex<br />

of that period were the "people of the elements"-were<br />

at rest.<br />

The climate was even, salubrious, without tempests_<br />

No one quarreled, for none displayed that self-hood<br />

which grew into an act after the exhibition of self-will<br />

on the part of man when Lucifer as lightning struck the<br />

ground. Man's wants were but few, food in the shape<br />

of fruits was provided in abundance. No danger luzked<br />

on earth, no bloodshed marked that era, and men and<br />

women<br />

of that age being governed by periodicity like<br />

children roamed over the face of the earth in groups enjoying<br />

what was to them an eternal existence; knowing<br />

neither sorrow nor trouble thru life. When death or<br />

deep sleep overtook them, it was a process of transferring<br />

the soul-consciousness from an active, happy state<br />

into a passive devachanic existence; for man's phenomenal<br />

life with its states, aspirations, and mcde of life<br />

reflects itself not only upon his conscious being when<br />

asleep, but clings to him even after death.<br />

With his fall, which occurred when he decided to guide<br />

his own being, man left the domain of peace that he en-
