what they eat, and give freedom to the senses while<br />

taking food.<br />

And again, when they lie down to sleep, they should<br />

study how to let go of the sense system, giving to it its<br />

normal course of action, and discriminating carefully so<br />

as to put no restsaint upon the reproductive system,<br />

other than a <strong>com</strong>plete retention all the life generated<br />

thereby. The god of creation has made ample provision<br />

for producing activity of the sex, and the consequent<br />

supply of vitality for every thing that lives; and the individual<br />

has nothing to do but to remove the obstacles<br />

that have been put in the way by abnormal conditions of<br />

the mind and abuses of the body.<br />

The mental conditions wholly govern the entire nerve<br />

structure and sensational system of the body,-in short,<br />

the mind is the man or the woman, without which the<br />

body is a lifeless clod; therefore the most important study<br />

is how to create in one's self and to hold continually the<br />

right mental attitude, remembering that belief and disbelief<br />

are conditions of the mind, and that they affect both<br />

body and mind more directly and positively than any<br />

other mental state, and that these are the special conditions<br />

which are most diilicult to control. Whatever you<br />

believe without a doubt arising from within or without,<br />

from that moment be<strong>com</strong>es an ac<strong>com</strong>plished fact.<br />

In strength and importance the principle of desire<br />

stands next to belief; and it apparently acts without the<br />

volition of the individual.<br />

Desire is, like hunger, seemingly<br />

independent of the mentality; but both are only<br />

seemingly so: many will tell you that they never get<br />

hungry when their mind is intense in another direction;<br />

and it is so with desire. 'To those who are struggling to<br />

conquer generation, the desire of sex be<strong>com</strong>es even<br />

stronger than the appetite for food; and that desire has<br />

caused many of our Esoteric students to begin to reach
