is not the safer_plan, especially when a belief in Divine<br />

help is well established.<br />

There <strong>com</strong>e times, however, to many of us, when the<br />

seems to weaken, and inharmonious physical conditions<br />

overbalance our faith to the extent that a gentle<br />

pressure of a Helping Hand is needed to restore the<br />

physical balance and to enable us again to "walk alone."<br />

Until we have learned to maintain our confidence and<br />

consistently to rule the physical agent, this helpirg<br />

hand may well be asked, but not until we have first tried<br />

to live according to natural law and failed to arrive at<br />

health. The prevailing habit of seeking a doctor and<br />

medicine, every time one is conscious of disorder within,<br />

undermines the will-power, and opens the door for<br />

numberless, undesirable intrusions. Those who claim to<br />

be "too busy" or "too poor" to take the time required<br />

for adequate rest, exercise, or "life in the open," oftentimes<br />

hasten from the shop, kitchen, or nursery to the<br />

doctor's office; and, obedient to his uncofnjirmed opinion<br />

and mandate, finally sacrifice weeks, months, or life in<br />

a hospital-with or withcut an operation; and this on the<br />

dictum of a stranger; while the all-knowing Power within<br />

awaits recognition, but is quite forgotten during the<br />

emergency, out of which Wisdom may have led the victim.<br />

Is this an act of the Faithful? Yet many who<br />

think they believe, thus prove their unbelief, even as the<br />

church-member fears death, while claiming it to be<br />

the solution and remedy of all ills.<br />

Especially reluctant should a wise student be in consenting<br />

to the removal of vital organs and tissues. Many<br />

harmful expressions by conscienceless fanatics or thoughtless<br />

individuals among our surgeons have done much to<br />

mislead their intended victims.<br />

No capable and honest<br />

surgeon assures his patients or their attendants that any
