leaves of the tree, [the knowledge gained thru experience<br />

by the regenerate people] were for the healing of the nations."<br />

(Gen. ii. 9; Rev. xxii. 1,2.)<br />

The destiny of man is to be a king or ruler over self,<br />

and a priest unto God. The individual seeking to know<br />

self must grasp the idea of the correspondence existing<br />

between the microcosm and the macrocosm, and attain the<br />

spiritual perception that man, the little world, is asynthesis<br />

of the great universe. He must know that man is<br />

man,because as a soul he functions as a man; so does society;<br />

so does the race; so do the systems of worlds,<br />

and so does the universe. To function as a man is to govem<br />

the animal body that man receives from the<br />

serpent, and to use its many functions in the good and<br />

the true, and not to be subservient to the impulses of the<br />

lower or sexual passion that is seeking to repeat the<br />

transgression, and thus continues death and unconsciousness<br />

in the race.<br />

God made man in his own image (Gen. v. 3 ), and the<br />

candidate for initiation is told that all the gods, even the<br />

greater ones, were but men who arose to power, because<br />

singly and collectively they control the energies of their<br />

own being and function as a man.<br />

In studying the question of good and evil in the career<br />

of man, who is a little world within himself, to whom the<br />

laws of nature apply the same as they do to the great<br />

universe, of which he is a part, we find that evil, namely,<br />

ignorance, incapacity, and its consequences, suffering,<br />

want, disease, war, and death, reigns, and will reign as<br />

long as man subjects his body to the rule of the generative<br />

impulse arising in the sex, which is the fountain of<br />

life.<br />

From this point of view, the life of man on the<br />

generative plane is a transitory phase of his being, serving<br />

the use of divorcing him from the rule of a deceptive<br />

spirit and of leading him to the realization that the con-
