Chapter 4: Verifying Installation/ Function Overview<br />

4.1.1 To test the communications interface, complete the<br />

following steps:<br />

Test the operation of the ASXPRESS system, and its interface with the<br />

Autosampler, by switching modes via the Configuration Tool.<br />

1 Open the Xpress Configuration Tool Software (Figure 1-50).<br />

2 Click on the “Query <strong>ASXpress</strong> Params” button (this will communicate<br />

with the autosampler/<strong>ASXpress</strong>, returning default values in selection<br />

boxes, and will make the “<strong>Manual</strong> Cycle” and “double arrow” arrow<br />

buttons available for selection (Figure 1-50).<br />

3 Check the “Enable <strong>ASXpress</strong> Operation” box (Figure 1-51). Unchecking<br />

this box would allow the autosampler to run independently of the<br />

<strong>ASXpress</strong> system, as if the autosampler were connected directly to the<br />

host PC. (Note that a different tubing arrangement would be required<br />

to run the autosampler without the <strong>ASXpress</strong> system.)<br />

4 Click on the “double arrow” button at bottom right of the window,<br />

expanding it to reveal the manual commands (Figure 1-52).<br />

5 Click on the “Load” button (Figure 4-3); doing so will position the<br />

ASXPRESS 6-port valve into the mode which loads the sample loop, and<br />

will illuminate the “Load” Led on the front panel of the <strong>ASXpress</strong><br />

electronics module (no autosampler operation takes place at this<br />

time).<br />

6 Click the “Save to ASX” button once. This will load an initial set of<br />
