2.5.1 Files in Appendix A “ycut.m” is the main file which calls mixedsource.m to write the nine test frames contained therein to the directory/folder to be read by the program. Those image files are in `bmp’ format. The remaining files are function files. The first level function file “pwork.m” applies to the group of event changes within each test frame. The second level function files have the following functions: (1) “scan.m” adds the control word for row and column addressing to the 5 th and 4 th planes respectively of the RGB coloured frames and also adds the 6 th (`yellow’) plane. (2) “subi.m” breaks down the image into separate pixel information which is then loaded into a cell array for use in the processing. (3) “ysend.m” shows the neuromorphic representation of the pulsing sent between the retina and the router/implant. 2.5.2 Use of the program Run “ycut.m” accepting defaults with the return key. The figures show (from left to right) the first reference scene; prior to a change (a collection of a group of event changes). The second figure shows the changed scene. Thirdly, neuromorphic pulsing is represented. The penultimate figure on the second row is a visual representation of the changes sent from the retina to the router. The final image represents the signals which would be presented to the implanted array at the optic nerve. Presently, for ease of use in terms of implementation timing the test frames are eight square, this can be altered to 128 square but will run more slowly. 44 of 200
